Launch of Sirius XM iPhone app 'StarPlayr' coming soon?
Subscribers to Sirius XM satellite radio have reasons to be thankful on Thanksgiving Day next week: it appears that an iPhone app called "StarPlayr" will be coming soon. There's a thread in the SternFanNetwork forums about receiving Sirius XM on the iPhone, and forum member JJRousseau, who is apparently an employee of developer NiceMac, LLC, pointed everyone to the StarPlayr website. StarPlayr currently makes a Mac player and is hard at work on the iPhone app. JJRousseau noted in the forum that "[t]he iPhone is our first priority, but it has taken longer than expected getting licensing worked out for the iPhone Client. As soon as the business side of iPhone version is worked out, you'll be able to purchase StarPlayr for iPhone at the App Store."
The feature set sounds impressive, with Sirius and/or XM content streams, album art, iTunes WiFi purchase links, lyrics, and favorites lists. No release date or pricing has been set for the app at this time.
Thanks to Rymon for the tip!

I wonder if it ties into an existing Sirius XM account/subscription? It would be really cool to see this be a $5-ish application, but have ads or something to make it a free subscription. The ad method is a bit difficult though... while they could do ads on the screen, some people may just start the app and then leave the radio going, so they wouldn't see the ads.
Anyways, the point is that it would be really cool if it was free to listen. I haven't ever given XM radio a try, but I've heard good things about it.

I have been watching this app for some time now and am very excited for it nearing release. I believe it will require you to have an existing account with either Sirius or XM, just like its bigger brother Mac app requires you to log into your sirius account.
You can get three day trials of both Sirius and XM at their websites. I believe you can also sign up for internet only account which is like five bucks a months.

I've got an XM app on a Nokia phone, but the trial start page claims I have to pay a monthly fee for it (besides the app fee); there's no mention of letting me use my existing XM membership with it. So I hope y'all have better luck with the iPhone app...

It's an app for SirusXM subscribers. It basically allows you to log into your Sirius internet account (All SiriusXM subscribers can listen on the web for free as part of their plan). It's exactly like the StarPlayr app they make for the Mac.
As for releasing the iPhone app soon...I'll believe it when I see it. That same line quoted above has been on their site for months and months. I would happily pay $10 or $20 for this app if they would just make it available.

I agree completely. I'll buy it the first day it's available if it's in the

Hmm... I meant "I'll buy it the first day it's available if it's in the under $20 range".

Can't wait! I'm ditching my actual radio when it happens!

I'm surprised SiriusXM would let something like this happen since they'd be directly competing with SiriusXM mobile devices like the Stiletto. Regardless, I'd be all over it. I can't get Sirius on my work PC (due to the firewalls, so this would be great).

In my experience with listening to Sirius online, they don't stream all of the channels.
My guess is that the Stiletto will pickup all of the channels and sporting events and starplayer will get just is what available online.

I am a beta user for another app named usirius http://www.millardsoftware.com that basically does this and works fantastically even over edge. However it lacks features still, so it would be nice to have a player with a full feature set.

Thanks for the link ... perfect. Now I don't need the stilletto dock and the iphone dock in the car. I'm dropping the stilletto since I don't really use it for much anyway.

Yeah, I too would pay an exorbitant amount of money for such an app. I have the in-car receiver of course, but if I can avoid getting a Stiletto for mobile listening, that would be so sweet.

Hey guys. While not as easy to use, you can already get sirius on your iPhone.
Get the program called uSirius for your home PC, and also the ORB app for your PC.
Setup the uSirius url's with ORB, and then stream it to the new ORBlive app for iPhone.
Once setup, it's really easy to use the orblive app from the appstore. It also streams live TV (if you have a tuner in your PC) and music etc...

I am one of the owners and developers of the StreamSmart System that powers these applications.
We have quite a large offering for Mac and PC, as well as iPhone.
I am unable to get in touch with the author, but if he contacts me over at GeeksToolBox.com I'll be happy to give him any information I can.
I'm not sure who the person is on SFN claiming to be a developer, but licensing is not the issue at all.
There are only three of us. GoodTime (at nicemac.com), alloutmacstoday (at nicemac.com and geekstoolbox.com) and myself (Geekstoolbox.com)
Our offerings are shown at www.starplayr.com

Dave,
If licensing isn't the issue, why does that exact quote appear verbatim on the website under the section 'What's NeXT for StarPlayr?' you provide for information?

Hi Dave, I for one can't wait until the iphone siriusXM app comes out! Is the Thanksgiving Thursday release date accurate that was mentioned in the article? Thanks, Kevin

Sirius is down to .14 cents a share. They need to do something to broaden the market they can deliver content to. It may even bee too late.

Yeah, but it's too bad they removed all the diversity of the content last week, especially coming from the XM side of the changes. I don't see any need for an app like this anymore, I'd rather cancel my sub and put the $13 a month towards a Slacker, and split my time between it and my iPod. The new channels brought over from the Sirius side suck. Alt Nation sounds like a CD that's skipping, and it's been doing it for over a full day now.

I'd like to get Sirius with Faith Hill for about 20 min. Well, that sounds like a braggart. Lets go 10.
