iHangman gives you instant, classic entertainment on the go
If you're looking for a quick "pick up and play game," give iHangman a try? iHangman [iTunes link] allows you to play the timeless game of hangman right on your iPhone. In iHangman, you pick letters from the side to make a word. If you don't get the word after a couple tries, then you complete the hangman and lose the game. However, if you guess the word, then you win. iHangman gives you plenty of options in the Settings tab -- you can change the timer, have single or multiple players, see the leader board for your iPhone, turn sounds on/off, and choose the word list categories. You have the option to choose from a myriad of word lists including: Animals, countries, sports, SAT, GRE, Science, and more.
This game includes over 36,000 words and their definitions. That's right ... definitions! When you lose or win a game, you are presented with the full word; when you shake your iPhone side-to-side, you will see the definition of the word. This is a very nice feature. Overall, iHangman is a fun game to play, and at $0.99US, it's not very expensive. You can download this game from the iTunes App Store.

Looks like I have another game to check out when I get home. For $.99, this sounds like a great addition to my "wasting time" games.

This looks like a great game.
But I have to say, I think it would be a much bigger winner with a wholly different design. Why stray from the hand-drawn aesthetic that is so familiar, and inherent to the game? Too much effort wasted on glossy buttons and inappropriate typefaces.

My biggest gripe with the visuals is the font choice of the lower buttons and the score headings at the top. Looks crappy with the "classy-ish" gloss buttons and what not.

There is a free app simply entitled 'Hangman' that is functionally identical as far as I can tell. A dollar saved is a dollar earned, no?

I love Hangman. And this is definitely a good way to kill time.
Also, Cory, you might wanna fire up the app and look over the definition of "loose". ;)

I've bought this app a week ago and deleted all the other hangman games after playing 5 min.
Sam - You must be joking right!! Because I've played that free hangman and doesn't even have half of this app's features.
I would definitely recommend this app if you are a hangman freak like me! :-)

I bought this game after reading this review and it is very nice. But honestly, in terms of a pick up and play game, the best one I have seen to date is Movie Challenge, which offers a lot more at only a buck extra. There is a Hangman type mode in it too called Preview, but with a twist on the regular Hanging Man formula. Plus the sound effects are awesome!

+1 for Movie Challenge. Love the "movie hangman" game in it. Especially the ones where you have to get the movie title and also the actor/actress/director. Very addictive game with lots of different movie themed "mini-games", for a dollar more, you can't go wrong
