Easy Wi-Fi for iPhone simplifies logging onto free AT&T wifi
Devicescape has released Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T (iTunes link) a new iPhone application designed to streamline logging onto the now free AT&T wifi hotspots. The old way required you to join the network, which would then bring up a page in mobile Safari to enter your AT&T phone number. A few seconds later you receive a (free) text message from AT&T containing a link. Click on the link and you're connected to the internet. With Easy Wi-Fi apparently all you have to do is launch the app and it will log you on without going through the text message rigmarole. They're offering it for free at the moment, though apparently it'll be jumping up to $1.99 on Friday. So if you make a habit of visiting places with AT&T wifi (e.g. Starbucks) grab it now at the iTunes Store.

Are we sure it's free now? A few weeks ago I was at a local Starbucks and was able to log on for free using the method described. Last week, though, I was at the same location and it wouldn't give me the option of logging in for free and sent me to a normal log-in page expecting a username and a password.
This little thing may come in handy though.

Weird! When I go to the App Store on my iPod touch, it's $1.99. When I go to the App Store on iTunes, it's free. Unfortunately I'm at work so I guess that I'll have to hustle home to my official iTunes library and grab it before they change their minds.

I thought so, too! Try searching for "easy" instead of "easy wifi" (which is what I did). It should pop up then!

There are two versions of this app in the App Store. The free version works only with AT&T hotspots. The paid version works with many other WiFi providers, including those in hotels, restaurants, airports, etc. and from international providers.

I got this for free when it was released a couple of days ago. I tried it out and it works great! So much easier than the alternative. This is how it should have always been.

I had the same problem as Ragadelic. Listed as $1.99 via the iPhone. Listed "Free" in iTunes. This is the first time I've ever seen this problem.

First, "Easy Wi-Fi for AT&T" has worked really well so far. I think that some folks are mixing up the free version (the one I just mentioned) and the $1.99 version ("Easy Wi-Fi") made by the same company.

Many of us (like me) have school logins. It'd be nice to be able to save username/password in Safari so we don't have to type them in eeeevery single time...

CarbonRod, I (and a bunch of my friends) had the same issue until we figured out we can setup a VPN connection and than all it takes is one click to get connected. Not sure if that is an option for you but thought I will say it anyways.

Am I the only one leery of giving my phone number to a random app developer? How do we know the app is sponsored by some giant telemarketing harvester? I already get 3-5 spam calls a week.
