Fieldrunners and other great iPhone games for the holidays

Time Magazine has named Fieldrunners one of the top ten games of the year -- and the only game on the list for the iPhone. Very impressive. The App Store has only officially been out for half a year, and games have been in development for only a little longer than that, but already, we're getting some great games on the iPhone's touchscreen.

And speaking of great games, I've only recently come across Warfare Incorporated, but I know some of our commenters have been waiting for it. I'm no good at RTS games, but the game was award-winning on other handtop platforms, and is apparently doing very well on the iPhone also. If you're looking for real-time strategy on the small screen, there you go.

And finally, Tatomic, which is a game I've really enjoyed (kind of a cross between Lumines and Dr. Mario), sent us a note to say that their full version is on sale for the holidays, for only $2.99. There is still a free version, but even at the normal price of $4.99 Tatomic is a bargain if you at all like falling block games. At just three bucks, it's a steal. Terrific to see the iPhone holding its own with quality games this holiday.

Fieldrunners has ruined my life. I lost my job because all I wanted to do was play the damn game.

Hey, at least I have more time to figure out crossroads.

I finally bought Fieldrunners the other day. What a blessed mistake. I'm way too addicted to that game. It's really impressive.

I play fieldrunners almost every night while I'm watching TV... my friend has TapDefense which seems to be pretty close, but free. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks decent - especially for a free one.

I can't figure out the best way for the damn Crossroads map on FR though. Freakin' hard or I'm just trying to much.

I would say you need to make a path that joins the 2 entrances and allows for the exits at the bottom and right side. Then when the blimp goes through you put electric towers on that same path. You will probably have to use that green gun to slow them down too. I'd put them on the same path as the electric towers.

On crossroads, I funnel both entrances down to one path, or have their paths cross and have a ton of heavy artillery in the center where they cross. This also helps to destroy the blimps and helicopters.

I love FieldRunners, but I'm missing some kind of leveling. Just playing each level to beat a score gets boring after a couple of tries, whilst leveling would have kept it much more interesting.

I gotta say check out "Movie Challenge", especially as the holiday season is such a great movie time. It's so much more than just a trivia game, with loads of different movie related games in one. It's only 1.99 and is without a doubt the best value I've gotten from a game, as it's the only game I find myself playing every single day. Also, currently in this price range is "Snail Mail". Great fun, really smooth graphics and lots of levels.
