iPhone devs get innovative with App Store promo codes
Last week we told you about the promo codes that Apple was allowing developers to pass out to anyone. These codes allowed people to get a free copy of an application, and we mentioned this was a welcomed feature for many app reviewers. One iPhone developer has some creative ideas when it comes to using their promo codes. Hexy [iTunes link] will be giving away 20 of their 50 promo codes to purchasers of their iPhone game. This is the first that we've heard of iPhone developers doing this type of "buy one get one" promotion. Plus, it's completely in line with Apple's regulations on the promo codes.
You will need to send a screenshot of your iTunes Receipt to the developer to redeem your code. Details about this promotion can be found on 148apps.com.

Another way developers could verify the authenticity of purchases is to implement a feature in the app to transmit the Device ID of the iPhone/Touch. With the user's permission, the first twenty Device IDs received would be eligible for the code.
However, I think the Screenshot is a less intrusive way. It would be nice if Apple created a way/identifier for developers to identify who is a paying customer for support. Some kind of unique number printed on the iTunes receipt that both parties can see.
I got the dev of the Rock Scores app interested a contest for his promo codes. A few of us on the Rock Band forums are trying to come up with a cool contest. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
