Walmart creates iPhone compatible site
Do you like shopping at Walmart? From electronics to $4 prescriptions, Walmart seems to have everything. But one thing it didn't have was an iPhone application, and now they do. If you visit the Walmart.com website on your iPhone, you will be presented with an iPhone-specific portal for all of your shopping needs. From the home page, you can browse through products by category, see current product specials, and even see a list of approved $4 prescriptions (in PDF form). If you tap the "Shopping List" tab, you can create your own shopping list. This is handy if you frequent the actual store. You can also search for a local store or search for an item.
Unfortunately this is where the functionality of the site ends. If you wish to purchase a product you'll have to visit the regular website, which can be slow to load over a mobile connection. If you want to check out the web app for yourself, just head over to Walmart's website on your iPhone/iPod touch.

Ugh. I hate Walmart so much. I feel the evil emanating simply by driving by one.

Now users have the power to knock out the “competition” with a device that fits conveniently in their pocket. How wonderful! Someday, when few stores are left and Walmart isn’t doing so well, perhaps the taxpayers can thank them for this handy free app with an enthusiastic bailout?

Wal-mart is a good store, who thanks to an oppressive and burdensome corporate and individual tax structure in the US, has come in and set up shop where local outfits can no longer compete due to their tax loads and has offered good prices and kept the other mega-corporations' prices in check as well.
By the way this iPhone beta has been available for months.

I don't want to dignify your comment with a response, but they are most certainly not a "good store." http://walmartwatch.com/issues/

Say what you want about Walmart, but in small towns like where I live, they have killed off all the other local stores, so you have no choice but to get your music, games, movies, electronics, toys, clothes, and groceries from Walmart.
I even have a checking account with the bank branch that operates out of Walmart's front end.
Walmart is sooo much cheaper then the remaining shops. With the U.S. economy in the toilet and tons of people on unemployment, Walmart is going to help several people ride out the economic downturn.

that's been there for a while... but it's always good to get a TUAW perspective.
