iPhone 3G now available for online purchase

Since the introduction of the iPhone 3G, neither Apple nor AT&T has sold the device online. That is, until now. AT&T is now allowing customers the option of ordering an iPhone 3G on their store website.
You can now pick up an iPhone 3G in either 8GB or 16GB black/white configurations. The 8GB iPhone is being sold for $199US, and the 16GB for $299. If new isn't your thing, AT&T is also offering refurbished iPhones starting at $149 for an 8GB model. You can visit the AT&T online store for more information.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I'm from the UK and due to my first iPhone 3G being stolen I replaced it by getting one online and I found it a much better experience than having to drive all the way to an Apple Store and then waiting in a line - as I did before. I recommend using the online service.

This will just make my switchover in May a bit easier... as long as they'll have no issues porting my number.

I'd like to own an iPhone but cannot due to poor AT&T wireless coverage in the areas I travel & live. I make do with an iPod Touch.

I agree... The iphone looks great, but being tied to AT&T network here is like not even having a cell phone. There is no coverage and calls get dropped all the time. Unleash the iphone from AT&T and I will be the first in line to buy one.

Enterprise users have been able to do this for some time.

This story is confusingly worded. So what you're saying is you can order online, but still need to pick up in store? Or can it be delivered?

I would totally buy the iPhone online through... VERIZON!
No way I'm going to AT&T.

I'd love to know this as well - I know the new baseband has not yet been hacked for unlocking yet, but when it is, are we good to go like old times? (like the original iPhone)

I still have an original iPhone on AT&T and a 3G on Rogers. I have been mulling over the idea of upgrading to a 3G, but for some reason I actually like the original form factor better. I'm not as data hungry as thought I would be so I eke by on EDGE no problem. I continuously checked the AT&T website for HUP eligibility but found nothing. Now that it's available, and after having more experience with the 3G, I'm floating somewhere between "meh" and "whatever". Mind you, the new Curve is looking tasty. . . but that's another post.

I refuse to pay for the overpriced iPhone 3G plans.

I still can't bring myself to switch to AT&T...Verizon's too good where I'm at. But the iPhone is so tempting...

If I left the house more often, I'd for sure get an iPhone. I can't stand my fucking Raz[o]r. But I work from home, so I rarely use my cell phone.

I know there's a way to read the site without iPhone news, but although when I use that URL in Safari the RSS feed appears, it's the full TUAW RSS feed with all of the iPhone noise. Is there an iPhone-free TUAW RSS feed? Thanks.
