Mac Giving Tree now gives more than Mac apps
We told you about the Mac Giving Tree over the weekend. It is a project from the guys over at MacHeist, and gives Mac users free applications just by creating a MacHeist account and referring friends. They have already given away copies of Enigmo 2 and Synergy, and now they are at it again. If you have been watching the tree, then you know something has been up. The Giving Tree now has iPhone application icons sprouting up around it -- what does it all mean? When the icons grow and start wiggling you are able to click them and join a drawing for the application. If you are a winner you will receive a promo code for the app specified. Wurdle, Fieldrunners, Flick Fishing, Moto Chaser, WeightBot, and Frenzic are just some of the apps being offered.
Please note that the promo codes are US only at this time -- so you must redeem them inside of the US App Store.

Now if only the Refer a Friend presents actually opened when you referred a friend. I tried twice and while my friends got the emails, the packages remain unopenable. This makes me a bit verklempt.

They have to sign up with that email address too. You don't get the present just for inviting them.

They also have reaaally tiny app icons around the tree too. i noticed them by accidentally rolling my mouse over one :D

It's too bad the site makes Safari use 100% of my CPU power...

I'm not getting the iPhone icons on my tree. Maybe they pop up after referrals? I did one referral and there's a little dog ornament shows me a sudoku program for $3.

You have to be patient. The icons will slowly grow in size, once it starts wiggling you can click on it for a chance to win. If you are getting the app info when you roll over what appears to be nothing, it just means that the icon is too small to see - give it time.

Got several apps in the Netherlands. So it's not US only.

Sorry, bad reading of my part: I didn't get any iPhone stuff yet, but I received the other presents though. The kids love Enigmo 2.

Here is the Christmas App I liked. It's outstanding because it leverages unique iphone accelerometer functionality. The majority of the Christmas Iphone apps are just copycats from the web games. If someone comes up with the Iphone app and wants to win it should be unique. A perfect example of this is Christmas Shake http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=300478842&mt=8
I guess we all should learn this year - it's the first Christmas season for Iphone lol

So is it now renamed "Generally Apple-related Software Giving Tree"?

i have won 4 different iphone apps from the giving tree...its great but addicting...trying to win apps and not over and over again..but you have to be signed in to your macheist account for the apps to appear on the tree...and as far as the packages you have to have that person you sent an invite to join the site...they are trying to build up the list of people for MacHeist 3
the new Opera 10 beta browser works great for this...and it has amazing other benefits and features...it even has widget games etc you can download...and different skins that can also be downloaded like Firefox does...i like the new Opera...even tho i have been a total Safari user for the longest time...so i use them both now...
also have the giving tree opened in two both browsers so i can try to win more...
there is nothing better than free stuff...love it...way to go MacHeist...you are the best
