Print photos from your iPhone with HP iPrint Photo
How would you like to be able to shoot photos on your iPhone, and then immediately print them on your HP printer? HP has a new product called iPrint Photo (click opens iTunes) available in the App Store that makes it very simple to print your iPhone pictures. The free download opens to a list of photo albums that looks very similar to the list in the Photos app on the iPhone. Tapping on a photo brings up a Print Photo page with a large Print button on it (see photo at right). If you only have one networked printer available, just tapping the Print button sends a 4x6 inch (10x15 cm) print job to that printer.
If more than one HP inkjet printer is on your local Wi-Fi network, tapping on a printer search icon brings up a Chooser-like list of printers that you can select one from. This is an excellent free app -- it took no setup and I was able to print a picture immediately after downloading the software from the app store.
Between this software and HP's announcement of their Mac-compatible media server, it looks like HP is starting to play nice with Apple!
Check out the gallery below for a few more photos of this app in use.

So, what's the hack for those of us who live in Epson-only homes?

What about an app that uses Bonjour to print to your shared printer? It seens like that would benefit more people. Actually, why doesn't Apple just build that support right into the iPhone OS?

@John B.
The technology that powers this app is OS X bonjour. This is just one if the first companies to employ it.

This is a major breakthrough — for the first time in recent memory HP managed to print something without 300 MB of “drivers.”

this is great news, having said that, is there any way to print regular mail documents/attachements/pdf's directly from the iPhone?

It seems to me that all it would take would be for some enterprising person to come up with a simple program that converts those documents to a JPG file and then send it to this app or another like it. I know nothing about programming for iPhone, but given the cool stuff already out there, I can't imagine this would be too difficulty, but what do I know?

If you hit the home button and the power button at the same time, it sends a screenshot to your photo library.

A step closer to the iPhone "It's a computer" claims becoming reality.

A little search shows also:

I didn't try it and users comments aren't too "eulogistic"! I can't believe that Apple didn't implement a full native iPhone Print Utility. The iPhone is still missing this feature.

@dasilvetz:
Take a screenshot of your mail/attachment/PDF, by holding down the home and sleep buttons. Then launch iPrint, enter your camera roll and you should be able to print whatever you want.

Are you really suggesting taking a 480x320 screen shot of a PDF as a substitute for direct printing?

Another thing to add to the computer of an iPhone!

FYI, I checked and although they just advertised wifi printers it also works with HP wired network printers. (I was using an HP Photosmart 3200 Series)

I wonder if it still prints in BLACK AND WHITE ONLY? I have an HP All-in-One printer and when plugged into the Airport Extreme N Router printing wirelessly yeilds black and white only. The only way to get color is to connect the printer directly to my MBP. Anyone else have this issue? There is a huge thread on the Apple Discussion Forums but no fix. :(

I had the same problem with a new HP printer (Deskjet D1560). Black and white only when plugged into my TimeCapsule or AirportExpress. I called HP support and was told it was a "known issue related to the HP drivers". The rep suggested to "return the printer" when I asked about possible solutions. Had the printer returned the same day. Picked up a wireless Lexmark and love it.

I was really looking forward to trying this app. But I guess my Photosmart P1000 printer that I just bought is not supported. Ok, maybe it is a little old, but it still works and prints just like it did 12 years ago.
If you are reading these comments before trying the app, here is HP's list of supported printers....

Nice App. I hope that the other printer manufacturers start creating their own utilities similar to this one. Hello Brother, Epson, Cannon, Lexmark, are you guys listening?
