Adium users disconnected from MSN

Late yesterday evening, users of the latest build (1.3.2) of the Adium multiservice chat client found themselves unexpectedly at a loss -- connections to Microsoft's MSN IM service stopped being accepted as of about 8 pm Pacific Time, according to a post on the Adium blog. The cause appears to be some kind of change on the server side that is blocking Libpurple (the underlying Adium communications library) clients using version 15 of the MSN protocol, so Adium isn't the only app affected.

Users are advised to either roll back to Adium 1.3.1, which uses an older library that's still working, or use the official Messenger 7 client instead. The Adium team says they'll update the post when they have more details. Update 4pm ET: Reports are that Adium's MSN connectivity is working again.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Ok, suggesting as a workaround that we use the official MSN client, that's just evil..
I once tried that (on mac, had used it on XP) and I think I'd rather just go live in a cave than use that awful program.

Even on XP the pidgin client is way nicer to use.
MS and usability, don't get me started

I updated at the end of december and have version 1.3.3b1. I am not experiencing problems. So this has already been fixed.

Wow I stumbled across this by chance and so I thought I was the only one behind my mac last night fretting because I felt so disconnected from the world without my adium. :P Thanks!

Get off MSN and start using Jabber (everyone has a Google account, so use it). Do the same for your friends too... You'll be doing yourself and your friends a favour.

That's right. I can't use Adium or Pidgin either to access MSN.

I was playing around in Windows 7 and was using Pidgin as my messenger application when I got all of a sudden disconnected. I sign back in but only to be disconnected again shortly there after. All night long I was being constantly disconnected every couple of minutes. I switch to Messenger Live while still in Windows 7 and the same behavior occurs.

Then it occurred to me that my account might have been compromised so I log into my hotmail account and change my password to something much stronger. I have had no reoccurrence since in any messenger application including Adium.

I am not sure if changing the password actually solved whatever Microsoft botched or if it was simply a coincidence.
