Slotz Racer now in the App Store

Looks like fun. Freeverse is only publishing here -- the game is developed by a company named Strange Flavour and they've put a nice manual together, along with plenty of tips and tricks to try out. The game is available in the App Store right now for 99 cents, but as we said, the price is heading up to $3 soon (which is still cheap, really, but if you're interested in the game, you might as well save two bucks now). Maybe this is your big chance to finally live your old slot car racing dreams out virtually on your iPhone or iPod touch.

This is easily one of the best games in the App Store right now.

I refrained myself a long time to say this but it looks like TUAW is turning into a "now in the App store" announcement site more and more. Where are your own original and genuine reports?

I totally agree with on that. It's like......

This is actually a reply to comment #3 from Mason... thanks for posting a link to my iPhone App Reviews site but I don't think I'm turning it into a "now in the App Store" announcement thing! Unless I misunderstood you...?
It's true that my Q&F (quick & free) reviews are on the short side but I'm really trying to keep the content quality high. I introduced Q&F to appeal to those who don't want to read 500 words and just want a quick overview of something free, but I'm still doing the full-length writeups.
Writing all those reviews myself started getting difficult so I recently brought on a small team of writers to help out, and so far they've been writing some pretty good stuff about apps that I'd never think to try.
Anyway, feedback is always welcome and thanks for the mention! And thanks to TUAW, I've always liked this site.

So the TUAW writing team doesn't even bother to pay 99¢ for these games before writing these little puff pieces? Great...

Not to pile on, but you act like Strange Flavour is some sort of new entity, that hasn't made any games before.
Come on, TUAW, you can do better.

I bet that most people have never heard of Strange Flavour, though. For what it's worth, this is the first I've seen the name, and I'd consider myself pretty well-informed.

Say wah?
Didn't make the 100-word minimum?

Why do you need slot racing when you have Asphalt4 and GTS ?!!?!

try it out. it's better.

Not only better, it's entirely different. You're warped back to your childhood's time in seconds. The game was covered in one of the TUAW MacWorld reports and I was waiting for it to be published - so I grabbed the 0.99$ copy immediately.
My kids already decided it's their #1 iPhone / iTouch game.

Ok, so the TUAW doesn't know who Strange Flavour is?
You've never wasted hours trying to master AirBurst and Airburst Extreme?
That's a title that needs to get reborn on the iPhone/ iPod Touch!

Once we've finished the XBLA version it'll be on the list ;)

Excuse my ignorance but why does a developer need a publisher to get a game onto the app store?

It actually benefits us both a lot. Apart from a bigger publicity presence that a larger publisher can provide, Freeverse also help us with testing, sourcing contracts and generally enabling our 2 man team to do a lot more than we'd normally be able to do on our own. In return, they get our English witticisms that mostly confuse them and an agile developer that can do all the crazy stuff :)

I wish the reviews were a little more in depth (at least have tried the game!) but thanks for bringing up notices about the best new games (especially when they're on sale and time is of the essence!). With so many games coming out every day it's easy to lose track of what's good out there. I spent the buck and so far I like it a lot. I'm just as terrible at it as I was as a kid!

It's a great game and why it's not on the wii or ps3, I just don't know. Excellent gameplay so simple and I never had scalextric as a kid bit I have it now and only $0.99.
