BGR brings the pain: ten things wrong with the iPhone
Yesterday's Boy Genius Report post citing the top ten deficiencies of the iPhone (no copy & paste, no video recording, and more) has generated more than 100 responses, some suggesting a fix for many failings (jailbreak the phone) and others hopping on the Blackberry or Palm Pre bandwagons in the hope that competition for the iPhone will spur more software innovation from Apple. While the App Store may be the hottest thing since that soldering iron you accidentally left turned on that ignited your Dad's workbench (and that's why you're not allowed in the garage anymore), even the sneakiest third-party developers can't effectively replace what Apple has failed to provide.Given the sense of pent-up frustration from some (but not all) iPhone 3G owners over a laundry list of things the phone doesn't do, or doesn't do well, here's your chance to cheer or castigate Apple in the hopes of a brighter day to come. Vote in our poll and comment below with your top priorities for improvements -- or, if you're a happy camper, your favorite feature of today's iPhone.

None of the above - Voice dialing, control is the single item preventing me from getting an I-Phone.
It was a wonderful device for the two weeks that I used one, but I want to be able to dial without touching or looking at the phone.
Voice Dialing.

There is a voice dialing program which works well available. And it is free. I use it all the time.

There are actually SEVERAL voice dialing programs out there...

Bluetooth voice dialing. The voice dialing apps I've tried suck. I don't want to have to launch an app, press a button to speak, and then talk. I want to hit the button on my headset while my phone is in a pocket, then have the phone auto launch 'Phone' and dial.

While it's true that there are "SEVERAL" voice dialing applications out there, my frustration comes out of not being able to use my bluetooth headset with any of these applications. While driving, the whole idea of a headset, voice dialing, and bluetooth is to not have to be picking up the phone all the time.
Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I have yet to find an application with which the iPhone shares its bluetooth connection. My three year old Samsung could do this.
Also, I too agree that Apple is an innovative company, but the degree to which you all are trying to defend a product that is obviously not fulfilling certain basic industry standards is rather troubling. You are a consumer, this is a product. I doubt that any posters here would argue that the iPhone is uninventive or old technology--rather, I feel that posters here are simply desiring Apple to deliver on basic industry standards and most importantly, fulfill promises Apple has made to the consumer (Push, I'm looking at you).
If the consumer doesn't hold Apple to basic industry standards, eventually Apple will lose the ability to realistically compete.

Robert: If you want to talk about my "degree of defending apple," You'd better flip over to page three of the comments and see me blasting them for all this crap. Apple does not care about what their customers want, they only care to inform customers what they are supposed to THINK they want. I have an iPhone for the virtues it does have, but I have no illusions about its many blatant failings.
The problem with this is that the author of the thread didn't mention bluetooth anywhere. He wanted voice dialing, we told him where to get voice dialing. I didn't say it was especially good OR useful, just that it exists.

Um... Opens Contacts. Finds wife. Scrolls to bottom. Taps "Text Message". Sends text message to wife. Wonders what Blockage is talking about.

Other than that, I love it!

I think it's pretty much fair to say that all the things on that list is a missing feature.

1st) MMS. I have a very hot coworker that has to e-mail me the things she does in the mirror.
2nd) Video. When I need to reply to the things that she has done.
3rd) Forwarding a SMS or a MMS. When I need to share with other coworkers what she has done this time.
4th) Copy and Paste. I don't think I even care, but I have heard some convincing arguments.

Oh and the whole A2DP thing would be nice for the gym. All I'm trying to do is get buff for any chance with the girl at work that does those things in the mirror.

None of the Above:
The SDK is far to closed and managed allowing for ONLY crappy gimmicky application to prevail. Android is far more open and far more applications have shown some serious creativity for a mobile device with all those capabilities in the hardware. Palm's new Pre even has a better programming interface then iPhone. We NEED the ability to multitask and it just doesn't look like Apple will give it to us because "they know what's best".
