GroceryIQ acquired by Coupons.com
We first told you about Grocery IQ in October of last year. Grocery IQ allows iPhone users to completely organize a shopping list, and even arrange the list by aisles in the store. While the application has grown since its first release, it is about to see some major improvements. Grocery IQ was recently purchased by Coupons.com (a website for finding coupons). According to a press release by Coupons.com, the application could see a 2.0 update as soon as February and include the ability to find coupons right from the device.
The update will be free for previous purchasers of Grocery IQ. The application is currently the number one seller in the Lifestyles section of the App Store. Grocery IQ is available on the App Store for a US $.99.
Thanks, Kim!

They need to give the app the ability to share lists between iphone users. I know you can email the list, but I would prefer the ability for my wife to update my list so I can stop by the store on my way home from work, and get her stuff, as well as mine.

Nice call! I second that multi-sharing. Wifey does the same to me.

Hey there ... I enjoyed your comments on ways to improve grocery IQ. If there are any other ways you think this app is not meeting your expectations or falling short, please share them. A few colleagues and I are working on a new concept for an app that will be for ALL your shopping (not just groceries), and we would like to make sure we do not replicate any of the GroceryIQ shortcomings.
Thanks! Your voices shall be heard :-)) AC

This seems interesting after Steve Horowitz leaving android for coupons.com

Gus,
I agree 100%. I want to be able to make my list on my computer, and then have my wife add to it on her iPhone, and then have it "just work" when we're at the store...

Well i'm hoping they'll finally send us some the the promised updates like multiple lists and stuff like that. It's been months, when it was promised back in November...

One reason I use TaDa List (the web app) to manage my shopping lists is my ability to create it on my Mac (or Windows machine at work) and have it with me on my iPhone.
What I'd really like to see is a web app that syncs with the cloud so that I can have my shopping list with me when I lose connectivity, which sometimes happens in my grocery store.

I want to be able to pull the barcode for the coupon up on my iPhone so I can scan the iPhone to get it. Is this even possible? Maybe coupon.com already does this? I've never played with it.

Bar codes cannot be scan from a screen like the iPhone, believe me we tried. Also would the merchant accept this?
Huey said 1:57PM on 1-30-2009
Hmmm. Good call. Guess I'm too used to self checkout.
Weird about the screen though, my sidekick used to work for movie ticket barcodes, that was years ago too. Guess the more advanced screen is the issue.

I use GroceryIQ all the time, I hope this won't affect its usability. I'm already annoyed that if I type bread or spaghetti sauce that I have to pick A specific brand. I don't need to know which brand I'll buy and most of the time I don't really care. If I care I already know which brand to pick I don't need the app to tell me.
Spaghetti Sauce
Cracker
Is much clearer than:
Catelli Super Spaghetti Sauce Light with meat
Nabisco Thin Whole Wheat Cracker
Sorry that was a bit of a rant.

Concur!
Also, I wish the auto-complete would auto-correct (or at least have the option), and use partial match search. And quicker. Other than that, very handy.
A smarter option would be to provide users the ability to create store profiles for layouts, and share those over the intarwebz/Grocery IQ.

You can just put in crackers or spaghetti sauce. I rarely list brands (and often my local favs aren't in the database). It'll save them as is in the history.
I'm annoyed by the coupons.com splash screen, though, and hate the thought of crap being pushed to my phone, or them tracking what I buy.

My wife and I use ZenBe Lists for list sharing. We have lists for the grocery store, Costco, Home Depot, etc.
We setup the lists through the website lists.zenbe.com, for quick typing, but once they are in it seems to work great. The app syncs across both iPhones and the web portal.
She organized everything by isle.
Produce - Green Peppers
Produce - Apples
Deli - Roast Beef
Deli - Ham
Meat - ...
Bakery - ...
...and so on...
This solution works great for us.

I like that method you all are using. It might even be better than the GroceryIQ which I currently use... and loved until Ir ead about what I'm missing!
Isn't that the way it always is?
