Rumor: New body for the 16GB iPhone
There's a new rumor floating around which claims that the case of an upcoming 16GB 3G iPhone has been photographed. The shot, now posted at iPhone Observer with similar images at MacRumors, depicts a matte black iPhone with the model number "A1303." It's also been suggested that the case in question is metallic, not plastic like on current 3G models. In the end, what do we have here? A photo of 1/3 of a single side of an iPhone (why not post the whole photo?), a unique model number (I'm pretty sure my 5-year-old could come up with one of those) and the word of a rumor-crazy Mac community.
Is this the case of a future iPhone? Could be. But we're not betting the farm on it.

Notice that the 'o' and 'e' seem to be cut of on the bottom.

Yep, someone cropped to tight before they pasted, looks like a P-Shop to me, Good Catch!!

Well it's not only 1/3 of a photo. There are two complete shots over at MacRumors. One of the entire back and one of the inner casing side. Go check them out and rethink the statement.

And I remember the time when one came here to check the news... not the old incomplete news known by everybody for days expect tuaw... O:) Do I?

@Yago Bal - As harsh as it was I actually agree. I think the problem is when TUAW tried to differentiate itself from Engadget everyone bitched about the content being to technical with Erika's posts and I believe there was an Automator feature that seems to have gotten discontinued. Without Mac specific content like that TUAW seems to just be an echo chamber for Engadget's Apple news and kind of redundant.

To bad its a fake.
If you look closley at the iPhone, the o and the e are cut off.
There is discoloration between the actual back case and the edge of the "Designed by Apple" wording
I think getting hyped up over new iPhones are becoming the thing of the past. The only thing that would get us excited are all the features that its lacking such as the copy paste, MMS, etc. A new iPhone MUST contain these features if its going to be the greatest phone to hit the market, which I think it is already, but in order to put the rest to shame they must do this.
Come on apple, release a patch, make us happy. Screw new hardware.

If this were real, I imagine the 'O' would not be sliced off at the bottom. Therefore it is guaranteed to be fake. I'm all for baseless speculation about new Apple gear (really!) but some scrutiny please.

It looks more like a silicone case to me.
If you look at the hole for the camera, it's slightly translucent; metal isn't translucent. Also, I see a lot of rub marks on the case.

I saw this for sale on craigslist...it was in Lansing, Michigan. I just went back to the post and the image has been removed. When I saw it, I thought that looks totally fake....knock off possibly...I felt sorry for anyone who would contact this person to buy one.

Gotta be fake. Remember why Apple went to the plastic back in 3G iPhones? The metal back obscured the GPS signal. I really wouldn't think they'd use an all-metal back then.

Why so lazy Dave?
If you're going to make your money by reposting old stuff, at least click through to the article you're reposting and take the time to see that there's not just 1/3 of the back of a phone. There's outside and inside shots. Doesn't mean they're any more real, but at least you wouldn't look like you hadn't got a clue when you wrote your piece...

Surely a fake, apart from the o and e being cut off (although to be fair this could be flash flare) the FCC ID isn't recognised on the FCC website search.

Honestly I hope they do go back to the metal back case. The plastic one really does gouge easily if you don't use a case....

I used sandpaper at 400 strength on the back
i got a really similar and coll effect
it also removed all of my scratches, even the very very deep ones
