Zune gets a smackdown on Family Guy
As if the Microsoft Zune didn't have enough bad publicity, now the Fox Show Family Guy is beating up on the iPod competitor. In last night's episode, called "Ocean's Three and a Half", Carter Pewterschmidt asks Bill Gates for some help programming his Zune. Then Carter remembers he has an iPod, "like the rest of the world." Zing. Pow. Of course Apple doesn't escape the sharp scalpel of satire either. In American Dad, a Fox show from the creator of Family Guy, Roger the Alien thought he was facing certain death and said: "I'm going to be dead, and I have two more years of AppleCare." Rim shot. Clank.
Here's a Hulu link to the clip from the show last night, and you can also watch the entire episode from the same link.
Thanks to Nick and John for the heads up. I've just got to start watching more television.

Right? One show that used to be funny and another that never was.

Not sure if "two more years of Applecare" should count as a shot at Apple. Besides, if ownership of an Apple product is transferred, so is the AppleCare... :-> :->
Now the Simpsons' shot at "Mapple", especially Bart's mocking of "Steve Mobs"; that was a shot, if a loving shot...

Ugh, I can't get that horrible "Everything I Do, I Do It For You" out of my head!

Well, on the other hand, Family Guy is a really shitty show, so there is that.

Best comment all day. Really. Just awesome.

While I would certainly believe that not everyone will love FG, to think that it is just a "shitty" show... well that's just ridiculous. I'd really love to know what you consider "good" television.
Last night's episode was one of the best in a while now.

I agree, to an extent. The thing that makes me think it's shitty is the blatant rip offs of the simpsons. EVERY episode I've ever watched (and I've seen probably a solid 80) has a plot scene, character, or subtle idea stolen from the simpsons. I've seen half assed videos on YouTube with comparisons, but when I get some extra time I'm going all out and putting together a complete series of family guy/simpsons ripoff exploits.

I'm with zeagus. One word: manatees.

I wouldn't say it's a bad show it's just the same jokes over and over again so if you've seen a couple episodes you've pretty much seen them all. There's really no plot or evolving story line to speak of so unless you REALLY like those jokes (in repetition) it might not be something you'd want to watch again.

Sorry, shitty was probably not the right way to put that. I just don't find it funny or interesting. I'm happy to talk about good television - should we limit it to comedy like 30 Rock and Arrested Development or branch out to things like BSG, West Wing, and the original Life on Mars?

" In American Dad, a Fox show from the creator of Family Guy, "
No no, allow me:
"In American Dad, a Fox show that's as near to identical to Family Guy as makes no odds, ..."
Sometimes I *get* American TV ... and sometimes I'm just too damned European.

You could almost go so far as to say that changing the character names and opening credits is the extent of the difference. For some people that's 100% more of everything they love, for others its "Dear gods, more of this?".
conigs said 5:51PM on 2-16-2009
If I remember right, Seth McFarlane (creator) wrote American Dad to be nearly identical to Family Guy as kind of a slight against Fox who originally canceled Family Guy. Hence the similarities. Not sure why they _both_ are still on the air, though.

meh, its still the superior product when compared to the iPod Classic.

Except if you're a Mac user. Then the Zune is a little plastic box with buttons on it.
SmilinGoat said 11:54AM on 2-17-2009
yeah, something they really need to get to work on, this isnt the time to try and keep PC market share through only offer a product on PC, its not going to work, its just going to make people want to get something that will work with a Mac.
im getting a mac this fall, i have a Zune now, i'll just be using Bootcamp for windows for my music.

No, American Dad really is funny, because it can live without the "like that one time when…" joke, that is always annoying in FG. It's like the entire show consists of that line, and it just annoys the crap out of me, the only thing that's funny about FG is Stewie and Brian, the rest just stinks. Sorry, but Peter isn't funny, Louis is an exact copy of Marge, Meg is just there, and Chris is pretty redundant as well, all four of them are characters that already exist in cartoons in the exact same way, Stewie and Brian are characters that are actually a creation of FG, and they are funny, so they can be good if they just try, but they only did that with 2 out of 6 characters.
And Roger from American Dad is just hilarious, there's no denial.
