BeeJive IM offers up sale, tells of Facebook chat feature
BeeJive IM [iTunes link], the ultimate instant messenger application for your iPhone/iPod touch, will be on sale this week, beginning on Monday, March 2, 2009. The application will be available for $9.99US (down from $15.99US). While this application is a bit pricey, we agree that it's one of the best instant messenger applications on the iPhone. This sale is expected to last from March 2 through Sunday, March 8, 2009. With news of sale also comes the news that a new feature will soon be added to BeeJive IM. The guys at BeeJive have let us know that in just a few more weeks, we'll see Facebook chat integration from right in the app. BeeJive IM is available from the iTunes App Store.

The beejive program is wonderful. It allows you to be signed into all of your chat programs at once without having 4-5 programs running. The price is a one-time license fee, and not monthly. As for the "push", you get instant notification when an IM comes in, and you can even program the LED to change colors for the IM application. Now that it is adding Facebook, there is no better program out there. I'll never understand those who say $10 is too much to pay for a program that is developed, supported, and constantly upgraded. The developers deserve to make some money on this!

However since then, a few other contenders have emerged.. Nimbuzz (free) already does facebook chat. And voip via SIP/Skype, too. Fring (free) doesnt at the moment, but it does Twitter (chat only). I think if I had not already bought Beejive, I would probably choose Nimbuzz.
March 05 2009 at 2:01 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyReally? In their support forums, a staffer from Beejive just /today/ posted a reply to someone who asked about Facebook compatibility with: "FacebookIM support will be coming in the next few months."
Weeks? Months? Who's got the right story here?
On a side note, Palringo, the free client i use, already does what seems to be BeeJive's biggest selling point of having a backend service to keep you logged it. I guess the only downside is the banner ads and that you have to sign up for a Palringo account (which connects to their servers and takes messages for you).
March 03 2009 at 4:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow does it compare to Palringo, a free iphone chat client i use, does anyone know?
Is all i'm gaining better UI/media features?
it works great, and it's getting FB chat at last, the feature i wanted the most :)

March 02 2009 at 4:08 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow does this compare to the Meebo's mobile site, which you can access on the iPhone via Safari?
March 02 2009 at 3:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIts like comparing apples and tennis balls. The difference is huge, you can't really use Meebo web if you're a heavy IM user but Beejive is great.
March 02 2009 at 9:33 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replymy only problem... NO SKYPE!
March 02 2009 at 3:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHad a couple of questions someone might know :
1. With the landscape thing, is it just the message chat that can go landscape or the whole app?
2. When the app is closed and a message is emailed to you, can you reply to the email to respond to the message? If so, is all the headers and stuff from the original message stripped out? For example IM+ you can reply to the email and the other person receives and SMS with the message and your signature (and thats it).
3. IM+ also keeps you online for 3 days (after you close the app), it seems Beejive is upto 24 hours, I assume this cannot be increased.
4. When you close the app and the beejive servers keep your session active, does the auto-away feature still kick in or do you appear online all the time?
Thanks!
1) The whole app can go landscape but you can only activate it when in a chat. But once you do the whole app is oriented that way.
2) You can't reply to the email alerts at all.
3) 24 Hours is the max time. Honestly if you don't connect once in 24 hours why even stay logged in?it also helps them take load off their servers for useless connections
4) This customizable by the user. You can set a time in which you want the auto away to appear or turn it off in general so you can always appear available.
