Found Footage: Kevin Rose on iPhone 3.0 features
Here's a short video from SXSW with DiggNation hosts Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose, where Rose goes through a laundry list of iPhone 3.0 features that will allegedly be announced tomorrow during the Apple Press Event.
This video sounds rather alcohol-fueled -- at least it appears that the audience members, who are screaming out their most-wanted features for most of the video, were rather drunk -- and Rose has a somewhat checkered past with his Apple predictions, but his description of cut & paste on the iPhone sounds quite realistic.
He also states at one point that the point of the 3.0 release is to bring the iPhone's feature set to the level of the Palm Pre. If that's the case, then we should also hear about Bluetooth tethering and integrated MMS messaging for the iPhone -- which I, for one, seriously doubt. Of course, we'll all see what's coming tomorrow, and you can get your coverage of the event here on TUAW. Note that the video contains words that may be offensive to some people.

Unless these guys work for APPLE this video is just about two douche bag-looking guys giving their opinion about 3.0.
On a side note..... the guy on the left seriously needs to rethink that hairstyle!

Always a great idea to believe people who've been drinking.

Still think Apple should add MMS, but I don't have my hopes up. I make the case here: http://blog.mcmanus-family.com/2008/09/the-case-for-mms-on-the-iphone.html

Granted, he does know people in the field... he's been right only about 50% of the time. Like the front facing camera for video calls on the 3G? Yeah... we'll see how well he does tomorrow.

MMS is the reason why most people I know don't upgrade to an Iphone. May be in silicon valley everyone has email on their phones but in real life most people use MMS to send pictures that need immediate attention.
It's kind of embarrassing telling everyone my phone doesn't support mms so you can't send me pictures. They automatically think I have an old POS phone from the late 90's.

the iphone is already outselling all other phones and smart phones without mms, clearly most people don't need it as they are doing just fine without it. I don't use mms, and online services like flickr and facebook allow you to share the same photos and store them online, other than that email is fine.. mms is the past..

Then why have text messaging? Might as well get rid of that too, as that is 'the past' and we have email, right?
Thing is, most phones don't have email. I doubt there are any phones that don't have texting ability and there can only be a few that don't have MMS, it is ubiquitous.

Bezman, is the iPhone really outselling other phones? Where did you get this info? It may be outselling smart phones handily but it's not destroying Nokia and Motorola's common phones by any means. Adding MMS might give the iPhone a lift for many users who can't live without that feature.
I can't stand the "I don't use it hence it's not important" argument. I don't use the camera on my iPhone but I would never suggest that Apple not include it (even if Apple Corporate told me I didn't need it).

It's not even outselling other smartphones at this stage. Nokia's marketshare is eroding but they still have over 40% of that market, with Apple and RIM each holding about 15%, and the remainder scattered over other companies. That could change dramatically, if rumours of agressive price cuts are to be believed. The iPhone could be going for free in the UK this Summer on the same sorts of plans as the Pixon or Renoir, and it'd be seriously competitive with the other handsets in that contract bracket.

Well, it does support MMS, I have a specific vodafone app, but it does support MMS... I can send and receive MMS's :)

Gosh, Rose is one arrogant pr¡ck! Not to mention the co-host, who has to say f*cking every other word; he's also an arrogant loser that prolly never gets any trim.

Gosh, you internet people are harsh.
Not to mention, what is the point of insulting someone's ability to have sex? Does that make you feel better for some reason?

Dragging the quotes around text certainly seems intuitive enough but when I first heard this, I was surprised at the number of steps:
* 1) engage clipboard
* 2) drag left quote
* 3) drag right quote
* 4) copy command
* 5) find place to paste
* 6) engage clipboard again to paste
* 7) paste
The proof is always in the implementation—assuming Rose has his details right—and hopefully you can actually *do it* a lot faster and if it's coming from Apple, it'll be brain dead simple. I would also expect Apple to take full advantage of multitouch here where you could probably use 2 fingers to do steps 2 and 3 (almost) simultaneously to hit both quote positions right away.

While it sounds like a lot of steps, it sounds like a clear way you are selecting exactly what you want.
If you select by simply dragging, you'd never get what you wanted first time. Remember, the input device is your(mine) fat finger.

How come ? It would finallly bring iPhone a step closer to having features that have been considered standard for about 10 years.. (ok almost). Those restrictions just have to go..
