iPhone Dev Center is back, get your beta now

Just as developers around the world are hearing about the new iPhone features, Apple has updated their Dev Center. With the new site, existing developers will get immediate access to the new iPhone 3.0 SDK. That is if you are able to login. Currently the Dev Center is experiencing extremely slow load times, and kicking some users off when they try to login.

It will be interesting to see if non-developers will register for the $99/year program, just to get access to the beta of iPhone 3.0. Be sure to take part in our poll below.

Will you join the iPhone Dev program just to get the beta?

I am 13 years old and i develop apps for fun! I wanted access to the 3.0 SDK so I could try to make an app or two for fun, but once I got in its only for paid developers! like im 13 i want to develop apps but i dont have $99 to pay! Apple, this is one thing that uve done wrong, make it open to every1!

This is what i got from the developer portal:

"Note: Once a pre-release version of iPhone OS is installed on the device you cannot restore the device to an earlier version of iPhone OS. The device may only be used for development and testing purposes until that version of iPhone OS is publicly released"

I installed the firmware in my iphone and so far everything is running fine...

I also noticed this. I was concerned that the device with the beta would not be able to be updated with future releases, but it would appear that's not the case, and once the final OS is released (and future versions) the iphone can be updated as normal.

If anyone knows otherwise, please say so.

It would have to be updatable to a full release or we couldn't dev. At least 2.0 was... Of course you COULD downgrade 2.0

@mcgm Or you can install Erica's UDID utility from the app store...

Thank you all for your help. I had installed OS 3.0 before adding my device so your suggestions, while helpful for the more thoughtful, did not help me.

However, I found an answer to my problem:

System profiler.... USB.....iPhone.....use the serial number (it provides the full 40 digit ID).

So for those that don't add their development device BEFORE uploading OS 3.0, this is the way to get the UDID for your brick and unbrick it.

Thanks.

Hi ~ I am registered with the iphone development program (at the $99 rate), however, when I downloaded OS 3.0 it says that my development device (an original iphone) is not registered so it will not activate. I have scoured the development site to see if I can find somewhere where I can register it but can't see the option.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm in the process of writing a CoreText like interface for my App, but as a student even 100 bucks are a lot of money so I thought I should save it til I'm ready for launch/beta. Is there any point in making the API documentation private? I would just know if there is a half year of work obsolete or not...

Does anyone know how to load the 3.0 software on a regular G3 iPhone that isn't locked in test mode?

@Flo Are you on a 3G iPhone? MMS is not enabled on the original iPhone.
