How does The Apple Weblog not have anyone in the press event? That's outrageous. I'm almost done reading you since all you write about is iPhone apps and when it comes to live Apple stuff you are always behind other blogs.

a) we don't have anyone who lives nearby
b) the UNOFFICIAL in the name of the site tends to make us less popular with Apple PR

So, you're saying we should be at www.toaw.com instead?
Ha ha, no worries. 9 live streams is enough.

Listen, I'm a fanboy and I loved reading you guys, but out of the AOL group of blogs I get the impression you guys are supposed to be the Apple experts. So why is Engadget there, can't that resource write for you?
Michael Rose said 3:49PM on 3-17-2009
Sorry, didn't mean to come off snarky.
While we're corporate cousins to Engadget, they have quite a bit more industry clout and their Apple coverage is a big part of their content mix. We do cooperate with them whenever we can, and our chat leveraged their coverage.
I would have loved to have gone to Cupertino today, but then I'd have missed St. Patrick's Day in NYC.

40 minutes in and you haven't missed much anyway. They are just beating us over the head talking about push notifications. Yawn...

can someone explain this one to me? i've run both the official AIM app, as well as BeeJiveIM, on my (jailbroken, 1st-gen) iPhone with the "Backgrounder" process. i've had it running this way for long periods of time. again---this is with an iPhone that's nearly 16 months old.
my iPhone's battery life on standby has NOT dropped by "80% or more". my iPhone hasn't blown up. nor -- last i checked, anyway -- has the background app turned my iPhone into a pandora's box of rabid grizzly bears in my pocket.
SO WHY ARE WE STILL ON THIS "PUSH NOTIFICATIONS ARE THE ANSWER" NONSENSE?

Sadly the live chat doesn't seem to allow my comments, despite having a comment box and it telling me they've been sent. Why does TUAW always make it so hard to participate?
Also, I agree that it's getting harder and harder to justify reading TUAW. Anyone got any good alternatives for Apple news, preferably with an update schedule more akin to Kotaku and sites like that?

We're not making it 'hard to participate' -- the chat is moderated.
J said 2:17PM on 3-17-2009
Then I have lost even more faith in the moderators. Some of those comments are inane or pointless, and I'm not saying mine were any better, but *I* thought they were :P

So, MMS is confirmed, but only if you have an operator that will license the push-based application already in the App Store (no, not the AT&T click-the-link app).

EDIT: Since the 1G iPhone won't get MMS, it will probably be possible through the push system, if operators want it.

Live Chat = No.
It isn't chat - just prettier than a web page. One sided conversation. Boo.

Hear hear! Not one of my comments made it through, but "PANCAKES." did. Great editing. It should have at least said "Join us (if we deem you worthy)" rather than the overly optimistic "Join us..."
Andre said 3:07PM on 3-17-2009
It really should have been made clear that comments were being cherry-picked - I mean moderated.
I asked a valid question early on - what is ADC? It wasn't posted, and was ignored. 20 minutes later someone else asked and it was posted. Some guy called Darrin seemed to get all his comments/questions through.
TUAW can do whatever they want, it's their site. But think again if your actions are just going to piss off your readers.
There are lots of other sites to follow. I picked TUAW. I can re-pick pretty easily.
Do you care?
