Cha-Ching Touch now available
Last month, we got a sneak peek at Cha-Ching Touch, the finance app for the iPhone and iPod touch from Midnight Apps. Now, it's ready to go. We haven't played with it yet (a full review is coming), but I definitely see the appeal of a quick and easy mobile finance tracker (which is a long-winded way to say "money app"). Years ago, I had a great check register application on my Palm and I loved it. It simply monitored money in and out with some basic categorization. That's what we're after, and Cha-Ching sounds like it's going in the right direction.
You can monitor your budget and enter location-aware transactions. There's good news for owners of the desktop version, too. Namely, transaction histories will sync to the iPhone client via WiFi. Neat.
There's a demo video here. It's a nice looking app, that's for sure. You can currently pick it up from The App Store for an introductory price of $2.99US. Again, we'll let you know what we think after we've put it through its paces.

It's awesome! Bought it yesterday and I have to say it's really useful. Syncing is definitely a great feature.

I don't get why you're pushing this app so hard when you've never even tried it.
PocketMoney has been out for a very long while (including on jailbroken iphones to start with) and is now superb: it does everything i want it to.
Why are they not getting the same level of coverage?

I agree. Midnight Apps have had a VERY dubious history when it comes to supporting their desktop app.
Although maybe not as pretty, there are other, better supported personal finance apps out there.

Who needs to try out an app? If the press release looks pretty, then that's enough.

I'm excited about this app too, but seriously. This is worthy of a press release, even a twitter, but not a post, if there is no distinguishing other apps!
Lame

TUAW is always evangelizing for this app, to the point of suspicion. If they actually tried the Desktop app and iPhone app before posting what amounts to an advertisement their enthusiasm for Cha-Ching might be curbed.
The reviews speak for themselves;

I too had problems with those guys. Their app, while it's said to be able to import files from online bank, fails with mine. I tried to debug the file, sent them neutered samples, even pointed them to the feature of the file that made the import fail, but only got one (generic I think but I wouldn't swear) response and then nothing and the new releases still fail to import my files. I won't bother with the mobile app...

It's because TUAW only posts rants and advertisements these days. Why bother listing alternative products which have been on the market longer and have been supported over time when you can post three links to the developers site and a few general comments that are barely related to the program?

"Again, we let you know what we think blahblahblah"
Why not do that BEFORE writing it up? This is the 2nd article about this app and still I know nothing, except taht you guys really really like the developers.

You should get a free copy if you own the desktop app.

As above, I really have been waiting for this, maybe the readers can fill in for TUAW, how useful is it if it won't be synchronized with the Mac app? Can it stand alone?
Midnight_Apps said 11:58AM on 3-24-2009
@quandmeme it can absolutely completely stand on its own. It doesn't require the desktop version for any features to be enabled.

Tried to buy it but wants 2.2.1 I'm not going to update my iPhone just for the app.

Why wouldn't you want to update your phone to the most stable release?
Cameron Williams said 12:45PM on 3-24-2009
Because updating takes time, and newer doesn't always equate to more stable. Not everyone updates immediately, and many even skip releases.
Kei said 12:52PM on 3-24-2009
Because I need Arabic on my iPhone and there are issues with 2.2.1
:) (Installing Arabic requires it to be jailbroken).
On a side note, can we change the currency to QR? (Qatari Riyal)

If the iPhone app is as lame as the desktop app, that I paid for at the time, then I hope no-one will fall for this. And like other commenters said: an article like this would have real value if the author had actually tested the app before writing about it.

I don't think the app is lame. I think it looks nice and is pretty nicely organized. There are stuff I like in v.1 more than v.2 though (Layout wise).
I personally just wanted something on my Iphone which is fast, looks nice (because I care), and can basically give me my statement on the fly.
