iTunes 8.1.1 showing in Software Update

Check the old Software Update, folks: there's a 68 MB iTunes 8.1.1 upgrade awaiting, or you can get it direct from Apple's site. The notes on the new version are as follows:
iTunes 8.1.1 adds support for renting HD movies and provides a number of bug fixes, including addressing issues with VoiceOver and syncing with iPhone or iPod touch.
The recent influx of HD movies onto the iTunes store (full list of titles here) promised but did not deliver rentals for HD titles; this update should take care of that detail. Let us know your mileage if you update.

Thanks Bruce!

Has anyone noticed that you can no longer drag your tracks straight from iTunes to third party applications such at Toast or Live?

And if so, is there a known fix for this??

What specs do you refer to? I just checked Apple's iTunes Metadata Specification and there's no reference to the length of any string tag.

I'd be very intrested if you have any more information about this.

Hey, does anyone know if they can sync their iPod Touch with iTunes now without it freezing and crashing every time? I had to go back to 8.0.2 because of that.

Doesn't fix the two problems I have:
1) When using the grid view (alt+cmd+4), displaying albums (rather than genres etc.), double clicking on an album displays the album tracks in reverse order. The track numbers are absolutely fine, but it displays the last track at the top. It's the same for all albums. The tracks can be reordered by clicking the column headings, but it's wrong again after restarting iTunes.
2) Clicking on the album cover in the bottom left corner to bring up a large version normally results in a window which is twice the size of my screen, with no way to resize it.

About the second problem, have you tried pressing Command-1 to resize the album art?

Its called a comment for a reason, its not space for a novel. Want to write a long review, write a blog entry about it.

You have been able to rent HD movies using AppleTV for quite some time now.

I find it unbelievable that it has taken this long for Apple to add support in iTunes for renting HD movies!

It might be that HD rentals via iTunes will begin Tuesday with some fresh titles, and they're getting this update out of the way now. Apple TV ownership numbers are probably low. People with an iMac, mac mini, macbook, etc. is much higher. Might be as simple as prep for a "big" first day of turning the taps open wide. Or maybe not. Who knows.
