New iPhone ads appear, bring joy and good cheer

Last night while watching House, I saw what seemed to be a new iPhone commercial featuring some pretty interesting applications. Despite the fact that I was watching this particular episode on my DVR, I stopped fast-forwarding through the commercials so I could catch the latest Apple showcase of iPhone applications.
For many people, if you've seen one commercial for a given product, then you've seen all the commercials you need to see. Not so with iPhone. As these commercials so ably show, the iPhone isn't just one product, it's thousands of products. Thanks to the App Store, the iPhone and iPod Touch have become a tour de force of gaming, productivity, networking, and so forth. The success has become so ubiquitous that I am even willing to watch a commercial to learn of new applications that could enhance my life.
The good news is that after stopping by MacDailyNews I discovered that there are a total of three new iPhone commercials available for your viewing pleasure; all without having to interrupt any commercial-skipping. MDN has the hot scoop replete with YouTube vids to fill your stomach with all sorts of unicorn teary goodness. You can also check out the new advertisements, "Itchy," "Office," and "Student," in extremely huge resolution over at Apple.com

I doubt I would trust someone putting my card number in their phone when I make a purchase. I wonder how much the company who made that app has made.

I'm curious what the app was myself. It is true that the iPhone can become many things. I've had mine for 2 days (had an iPod Touch for the last year) and I enjoy that the iPhone is something I can just "use". I also watch the iPhone commercials to see what applications exist for it. Windows had an advantage in the past because of the software written for it. I think the iPhone has the same advantage. I don't know of anything like Shazam or Urban Spoon for Windows Mobile, and I looked pretty hard. There's no Kindle for Windows Mobile.

Since this appears to be a somewhat open thread about apps, has anyone seen an app like Barcode for the G1, which uses the camera to scan a barcode (a la Delicious Library), then aggregates data from the web on that product?

There's an app that lets you take photos of the cover of books and games and does what you ask. It's been featured in a recent TV commercial, too. It's called SnapTell.
Not sure of an app for doing the same with barcodes.

Why can't TUAW bloggers edit yourselves?

And what, may I ask, is wrong with that?

A little OT, but Sprint's new advertising campaign actually got noticed by my wife and friend. They really kinda nailed it including the pass at Twitter. I'm sure this is part of their ramp up to the pre and it should be a good summer for dueling advertising between the iPhone mark III and the Palm pre; I'm sure the ads will be better than some of the prime time programming they offer.

God, I love apple as much as the next guy but you stopped fast forwarding through commercials just to watch an iPhone spot?

I noticed the new commercials on Monday night. They are interesting applications targeted at specific groups of people (with just enough wow-factor to impress everyone else).
Even though I use the App Store and internet every day, it still took me over 15 minutes to figure out what the apps were from the ads and bring them up in the App Store interface.
I couldn't believe the reviews of those apps on the store...all were almost universally negative. I thought they would have highlighted some well-received apps instead of buggy, pseudo-working apps. Oh well, they got me to look things up on the App store, so they win.

Agreed, I still can't believe how badly Loopt has failed despite it being one of the premier soc. net. apps in App Store. Urbanspoon has quite a few negative apps (I prefer Goodrec anyway), and Monkey ball didn't do too hot in the beginning. Apple needs to showcase apps like:
Beejive
Colorsplash
Skype
Sportacular
Air Sharing
Jaadu (or any other great VNC app)
Convertbot/Units
Hero of Sparta
Trism
Oregon Trail
Sim City
and
Netshare

My favorite part of this article was where the "reporter" went to an in related news site for information, and invited all of us to go there too for the "scoop."
Isn't that what people came to tuaw for in the first place? What did this article offer me? News? No. The inanity of a new apple commercial aside, you told us you went somewhere else first. Opinion? Not really. You told us that you rely on new ads to learn about apps. A link to House? Yes. Increase your post count? Yes. Dilute tuaw's signal to noise ratio? Yes.
Oh, for the quality posts of erica sadun...

The only downside, for us Canadians, is that CC Terminal is 'not currently available in the Canadian store' :(
Anyone know of a similar app that IS available up here?

Oh wow, I like purchasing Apple branded products as much as the next guy, but perhaps you are taking this just a bit too far. This reads as if it's some sort of SNL skit parody (if it is, then my hat is off to you!).

You know, I did the exact same thing. Watching House, skipped through commercial, hang on! What's that app? Rewind. OH WOW! I could use that!
