Beta 5 of iPhone OS 3 downloadable
Version version, who's got the new version? iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 is now downloadable, along with a new build of iTunes 8.2 -- log into developer.apple.com to pick up the latest build. What's tweaked and changed? Well, editing the carrier file in iTunes to enable tethering is now apparently blocked, and MMS support on AT&T is also 'hidden' per the iPhone Blog. It's not 100% clear whether these feature drops are deliberate, as some reports say a clean install preserves the capabilities. Parental control features for apps now seem to be visible... and yes, the new beta has already been jailbroken.
Got more observations and tidbits? Let us know below.

It didn't really work yet anyway, so no big loss. It will be enabled by AT&T after the official release.

Running it on my touch. Seems less laggy and hasn't crashed yet. The music app is more stable as well. Also, I can play/pause from my S9 Bluetooth headphones now (couldn't with Beta 4). I can't skip or rewind from 'em, but hopefully that's coming.

I have a pair of Sony DR-BT25NX headphones that have worked with the play/pause button since b3. The volume being done all on the headphones works, so the only thing left is the next/prev buttons. It kind of kills the mojo to have to pull the iPhone out to skip.

How many betas are generally released before they will release the real OS 3.0 goodness? I assume they are planning to have this off by WWDC? Lastly, I was watching the video podcast of the last Apple keynote just to get the juices flowing wrt 3.0. All this talk about Bluetooth interaction in games and such... is it true that the 2nd Gen iPod touch has a Bluetooth chip in there somewhere?

The Nike+ on the iPod touch 2nd gen. functions off the bluetooth.

MMS works fine here O2-UK PAYG, I have no need for the tethering so haven't tested (It is however enabled from the ipcc i used last version.. I assume thats why they are both still there).
In the settings I now see many more things... can now edit other than Cellular Data Settings;Visual Voicemail settings (Not available on PAYG) and MMS settings.
Otherwise software is similar to the last beta, just as responsive, have not looked at the apparent youtube changes.

Beta 5 breaks visual voice mail. Do not upgrade unless you are willing to lose access to visual voice mail. You must dial in to retrieve voice mails. 'Course it could just be my phone....

The "Store" item in Settings has been further enabled, picked up an icon, and gained an ugly "account overview" screen where you can verify your account info.
MMS is turned off; the plan is probably still to introduce the feature (it *was* part of the announcement), but to disable it since folks were hacking it. Shame, shame.
Have had no problems with Visual Voicemail, data, or any other features. Still a couple of my apps that don't work (and haven't since I moved to 3.0 betas).

Here is how you make your MMS work under beta 5
Enter the following settings in the network/cellular data/mms settings. Reboot and make sure MMS is turn on under messaging (it will reappear after reboot). I tested it sending and receiving and it worked perfectly.
make sure you have have mms in your subscription plan. the settings here is for Three Hong Kong but you can change the settings for your carrier.

Beta 5 doesn't break tethering or MMS (didn't work anyways) for me, but I think it's because I just did an update instead of a clean install.

If you need help getting your UDID activated on a developers account i found the website that i linked to my name above actually found them in facebook, They have links for the new beta 5 in IPSW form, as well as 2G files. They had me up and running in no time and i now have complete access to their Apple developers account with my own user ID and password. It was worth it, just my 2 cents for anyone who is in the same boat i was.
