T-Mobile supporting iPhone? Yep
It doesn't sell them. It doesn't promote them. Apparently, however, T-Mobile will support them. The Consumerist is reporting today that a recent change left iPhone users on the T-Mobile network without voicemail. Worse, when someone tried to call an iPhone on the T-Mobile network, the system sent a blank text message. Unless the iPhone user had an unlimited text account, those little messages were costing money.Several customers contacted Executive Customer Support and got a phone call that acknowledged the problem, and gave the customers a 1 month service credit.
T-Mobile, through a representative, said "T-Mobile, though they do not offer the iPhone, (but) they are committed to supporting users on their network who have them."
True to their word, within a day or two the problem was fixed.
Wow. Just wow.

It's sad that T-mobile supports the iPhone better than AT&T does!

Verizon can't get into the picture because they are a CDMA carrier. AT&T and T-Mobile (along with almost everyone else in the world) use GSM.

T-Mobile support a GSM handset on their GSM network. Is this news?

Yeah, that was what I was thinking, both T-Mobile and AT&T always supported me when I had issues with my unlocked phones.

What you dont understand that these problems ONLY happened to people using an unlocked iPhone on Tmobile's networked. It definitely took extra time and troubleshooting to figure out what was wrong and to fix it. Not only that, was the amount of dedication in that customer support did to answer questions.
and on top of all of that, they gave people with iphone troubles on their network a FREE MONTH of service.
I guarantee you that if it was ATT or any other carrier, they would not spend the money or time in researching and fixing the problem on an "unsupported" handset they didnt carry.

also:
"Sure enough, within a day or so, in response to the problem, a T-mobile Tier 2 service rep posted an acknowledgment of the problem in a hackintosh forum, and indicated they'd fixed the issue."
You don't see ATT or verizon CSRs posting on hackintosh forums. Tmobile is the carrier that understands, its just too bad we cant use their 3g on the iphone 3g.

T-Mobile helped me set up MMS, internet access and all that jazz when I bought an unlocked european phone that they don't even sell.
This is good customer service by T-Mobile. On one hand it's not "newsworthy" because they do this all the time, but on the other hand it's refreshing to see a company that actually seems to care about its customers.

There is a reason why you can't use the 3G on T Mobile's network, and saddly it's unfixable. T Mobile and AT&T broadcast their 3G networks on different frequencies and since the the iPhone 3G was only built to pick up AT&T's frequency, it's not possible, at least at this time, for the phone to register the network. Annoying, I know, however if you know this ahead of time, you can save the money and spend the additional funds for an unlocked 3G iPhone when the original one will work just as well.

My experience with t-mobile customer service was always wonderful. I'm sorry I had to switch to get original iphone.

Well, that explains why my bill was so high and no one was responding to my texts. I just thought I was sending way to many texts, to people who didnt like me.
Really, T-Mobile has been great for me though. I have had my iphone working perfect on t-mobile for 2 years now and a 3G iphone for about 1 year. Never a problem until this, but it was fixed quickly.

T-Mobile has always had amazing customer service, just not the best phones. Then the iPhone was unlocked. :D This just goes to show why I'm never leaving T-Mobile. :)

I really find this unsurprising. T-Mobile is the sole provider of iPhones in Germany. It's not like they're unfamiliar with supporting them. Plus yes, their support is really good in the first place.

Just curious, did people ever get Vis Voicemail and you tube to work on unlocked and jailbroken phones, on T-Mo? I knew there were some fixes for getting the you tube player to work.....never did hear anything about V. Voicemail.
Also, can someone tell me the rates on the non-3G txt and data plans on T-mo? I checked their website and they only have 3G rates listed...

The data plans are the same price whether you subscribe to 3G or not.
Also with my unlocked iPhone, youtube worked fine, but visible voicemail never did.

Stuff like this is why I stick with T-Mobile. I really, really want an iPhone. But AT&T plans cost more, and their support sucks. I left AT&T for T-Mobile waaaaay back in 2004, and I haven't looked back. Nor do I plan to.
(Dear apple: please release legit unlocked iPhones in the US...=p )

I was on T-Mobile with my Sidekick for about 7 years. was really disappointed to leave T-Mobile for AT&T when I got the iPhone.
Love the iPhone. Hate AT&T.
T-Mobile has much better rates and -- obviously -- much better customer support.

Stories like this one are why I was so sad to leave T-Mobile for AT&T when I got my iPhone. T-Mobile has the best customer service I've ever had to call.

When iPhone 2G became available in july 2007, i switched from T-Mobile to AT&T because of the iPhone after being on T-Mobile for many years. After having significant issue with calls being dropped at home and failing to resolve it in spite of getting replacement iPhone, i returned my iPhone back to the store. I was too lazy to switch back to T-Mobile so i contacted AT&T and asked them if i could stay on its network without any contract using my own device. I was told there was no way that they could provide me service without a 2-year contract !!! I was giving them business and yet they didn't want it. So i did the Cartman thing: "Screw you guys, i'm going back to T-Mobile". T-Mobile welcomed me back in open arms and i did not even have to sign any stupid contract. Oh yeah, when then free software unlock of iPhone became first available, i bought another iPHone, unlocked it and without suffering from any of the past drop call issues i had with AT&T.
