DVR Remote 2 available, but you may want to wait

Stutsman Software has released version 2 of DVR Remote, an app we covered a while back that lets you use your iPhone or iPod touch as a remote control for your TiVo Series 3 via WiFi.

One user, however, is reporting an issue with a Now Playing list that never ends -- that is, its contents are repeated over and over again -- but Derek Stutsman, the developer, is working on it. On the product's page in iTunes (link opens iTunes), Stutsman suggests you may want to wait until he releases a fix before upgrading from 1.x.

New in this version is improved keyboard support, rewritten networking support to handle transfer interruptions, and a faster "Now Playing" list. Also included is support for skins. You can select from one of many attractive themes for your remote, or create one yourself. Pictured here is the "Starry Night" theme.

DVR Remote is available in the App Store for $2.99.

Thanks, Derek!

This application rocks. Controls are more responsive than the peanut remote, and you can see show details right on your phone (so you can plan what to watch when Dora the Explorer is done and the kid is off to bed).

It's a prime example of how the touch/iphone is such a disruptive device, replacing a 1000$ creston remote with a 2.99$ application (Yes I'm aware that the touch/iphone needs to be purchased as well - even then you're looking at 203-503$).

Besides how much they suck? nope. I've had the 'privilege' of using cox for 7 years now, due to that they're the only cable company in town and I rent so satellite isn't an option, and I have to say I wouldn't be surprised if you never see one. Although the only shinning light is that most of there receivers are a very common motorola dvr - so you 'might' just get one for that but I wouldn't bet money on it.

Yes, now I have an even more expensive remote. I guess if you can't let go of the iphone long enough to watch TV it works for you. Thanks for draining the battery even more.

I am amazed that AT&T have not come out with their supposed Uverse iphone remote. I have a feeling it is coming soon since they (finally) updated the online scheduling so that macs can use it with safari.
