Rumor: New iPhone to be called "iPhone Video?"
Further fueling the iPhone fire (try saying that one five times fast), TUAW has received an anonymous tip stating that AT&T's support website will be updated with "iPhone Video" as one of the model choices when choosing Apple as the phone manufacturer. This adds to some already interesting news, reported earlier by AppleInsider, that new model placeholders have begun appearing in inventory for Carphone Warehouse, a retailer that resells the iPhone. These models were labeled with a "V3", which could simply mean Version 3, or the V may also stand for "Video" or "Video 3G". Other retailers have also recently reported additional entries or placeholders showing up in their inventories, and many carriers have also received end of life notices for the current 3G models.
So even if a new model isn't announced at WWDC, it's a pretty safe bet that Apple has something in the pipeline.

Odd, what could video mean? The iphone already has video. Unless it means recording video, but i don't see that as such a big feature it warrants a name change. I dunno, means nothing to me at the moment.

This is easy to fake with any web editing tools
Take a look!

I'm not saying it is not true, just that it is very easy to fake

Your "interactive iPhone" means absolutely nothing. It's just some made up website that knows nothing more than we do about the next iPhone.

Which one would you pick? http://xrl.us/bevi3j

No, Interactive iPhone is going to be the name of the new iPhone...
I was saying that whoever has that domain name is probably going to get a big check or be sued by Apple.

This is definitely shopped. There would be no point in making a 'Video' version of something that already plays videos.

I'm with you Anton, I don't think video recording is a big enough change to warrant a new name. And I really don't want it to be named this! LOL

The faster processor is going to warrant a name change because some apps are eventually going to be playable only on the newer phones. iPhone video sounds better then iphone gamer

The reason the next version will be called iPhone Video is not only because it records video, but mainly because it will be able to do video chat over the cell network. For proof, look at the 2nd photo on this page:
http://bit.ly/iPhoneVideo
Additionally, you will be able to do some basic video editing (before publishing directly to your youtube account.) Keep in mind that Apple has already confirmed that you will be able to login to your youtube acct in the 3.0 upgrade.

Apple likes simple names though. They named the second model iPhone 3G because it's biggest advancement was the 3G chipset. So it's not too far fetched to think that they would name the new model iPhone Video if it does indeed have a front-facing video camera.

Well, they sure can't call it the "iPhone 3G" (as they would've if not for this 3G-cell-network thingy).

uhh, you can easily change any web page with GreaseMonkey or FireBug to show that extra menu option...

Video chat?
Would be wonderful with a video chat over 3G data instead over the 3G video call. Because video call on 3G sucks with 15 fps and crappy resolution.
So for deaf or other people who need to communicate visual this thing would make it truly mobile. So crossing my fingers,
Why would it otherwise be something to brag about, if they only will do what all the other brands has done for ages?

agreed,
the main feature is the name, iphone 3G (obvious)
so iphone video has to have more than just video recording, all
jailbroken iphones can already do that (cycorder). There must
be a frontal camera for video conferencing, ala, iChat for iphone.

This will more than likely become a "reference name" for the new iPhone, just like the 5th generation iPod was mostly called the "iPod Video"

Exactly, Joachim, that's what I was just thinking. If AT&T referred to this phone as "iPhone 3rd Generation" that would be catastrophically confusing for support, as everyone would mix it up with the iPhone 3G. Even if Apple's official name for this new phone is just "iPhone," inventory systems and support websites are going to refer to it colloquially as the iPhone Video to distinguish from the 3G.

There is a pic that suggest the iSight green led on an iPhone. So I'm hoping as this would be real progress.
