Photoshop Phun: iPhone next-gen rumor pic roundup
Well! Our tips line has certainly been a beehive of activity with WWDC just around the corner. We've gotten several purported iPhone images, which range in quality from meh to ludicrous. Particularly interesting: the iPhone Blog's 16x9 widescreen model.
As for availability of the rumored phone, GearLive is laying it on the line for an on-sale date of Monday, immediately after the announcement. Technologizer responds with four reasons we wouldn't see the new device in stores right after the keynote.
Interested to see what everyone else has cooked up for Apple to release on Monday? Check out the gallery for pictures galore.
Thanks to everyone who sent these in!

Wow, good reasoning and journalistic research on the first picture, the source http://www.iphone-ticker.de/2009/06/02/schone-renderings-vielsagende-angebote-von-orangeat/ clearly states that it's a design study from a 4th year industrial design student...

That's a shame. It's my favourite of all the photos.

Why wouldn't they release it Tuesday?? That would keep them in line with their usual release date, and it would give customers time to get to the store so that they can buy the phone. Why not? Also, releasing for sale it the same day as it is shown to the world can't go smoothly. Would they sell it at noon in every shop? How in the world could this work? I believe that it will be unsheathed on Monday, and then released for sale the following day, a Tuesday - it all makes sense.

Ok, I'm wondering what is with the reasoning for some of these. The first is obviously fake. The fact that it's clean and doesn't have shadows doesn't mean anything. Actually, it looks like there is a little bit of shadow under the faced up iPhone. 1. If we assumed the product was real, this would simply be a great shot done likely by a professional. It's easily possible to remove shadows, just add a couple lights. 2. It doesn't have photoshop artifacts which is a plus, almost all the rumor photos that are photoshopped do have artifacts. So being clean obviously doesn't mean it wasn't photoshopped, but it could be an indication is wasn't, assuming: 3. Does the product even make sense? a big iPhone? No it doesn't. People want a larger touch, yes, but it wouldn't be the same product. All current info is against that.
The photo that you mention as 'plausible' is clearly a photoshop. 1. It has artifacts all over it. 2. It's not aligned in any direction! The screen and the ear pice aren't parallel with the top of the iPhone. 3. The piece looks nothing like it should. 4. It doesn't line up with any rumor or other picture. Usually, as multiple rumors show up as really similar to one another, it's a good indication that something is plausible. This was the case with the newest nano, the 3G, and the macmini.
Your reasoning for the 2 screenshots are sound. The only thing about the screenshot with the Apple site is that it seems to line up with a couple other rumors. But, why would apple highlight a mic app? Also, it's not the first pic of an Apple site we've seen this time, but I don't necessarily believe the others.

I think the camera lens looks a bit large and it seems like if they did use one, it would be flush with the glass, or under it. Nice render, though.

I hate to say it Erick, but yours is a fake! The SMS icon is a give away. This would indicate the new phone running with the old OS.

No crap it's fake. I made it as a joke.

With all the E3 news this week, I'm finding it hard to get amped for a new iPhone... I just hope AT&T reduces the monthly fee...

Why is TUAW referring to it as iPhone 4G? it is not 4G; and the original was not the iPhone 2G.
I don't mean to be brash, but I don't understand why a TUAW article would fuel the use of 4G when referring to the iPhone 2009.

Yup. It should be iPhone 3.0 or something. I hate the whole system-too many G's thrown around.
My friend once thought the iPhone 3G meant it had 3GB of space. He's an idiot, but I see where the misunderstanding comes from

You know, I looked at that headline four times and I didn't notice that. Good point.

@Oliver Hart: This makes me think Apple will use the year of release. Its relatively apparent that they will release one every year. If they called the next one the iPhone Video, what would the next one be called? They would be relying on a feature for the nomenclature.

Well now this new iPhone is the iPhone 3G Generation 2.
There was the:
iPhone Generation 1
iPhone 3G Generation 1
iPhone 3G Generation 2
I think it will be that since they renamed the iPhone to the iPhone 3G when it got 3G capabilities.
Joachim Bean said 7:50PM on 6-06-2009
It's amazing how these people are trying TOO hard to make a good mock-up. Ever since the leaked 3rd generation iPod nano screen grabs photos turned out to be true, everyone wants to make a fake screen grab. Also, these photos turn out to be way too perfect, as pointed out in the gallery.

That last one is fake because the top of the screen is not even.
So you can cal that one a fake, since Apple knows not to make products that aren't symmetrical.
