iPhone 3G demo units are going, going....
Clayton Morris noted on his blog Sunday that iPhone 3G demo units have been removed from display at his local Apple store. While it is not uncommon to see one or two displays missing for various reasons, Clayton noted that there were at least nine units missing from the main iPhone display tables. Couple this with reports from some Apple stores that they have additional staff scheduled for the next couple of weeks (starting today), and you have some pretty good signs that the new iPhone model might just be available today.

Omg!
I'll be pissed if this is true. I have a job and they'll probably be sold out at 8.
Unless they have plenty of stock.
This is amazingly awesome nonetheless.

I don't think iPhones have really ever sold out at the Apple Store. Like when it first launched while there were huge lines they never ran out. So it's likely that there will be large amounts of stock anyways.

I CAN'T WAIT.
I have been using an online version of the iPhone and I really like the iPhone interface so much that I am going to get one. But I figured I better wait till the new one came out.

Did they just pull the 16GB models, or did they pull both sizes?

How can a new iPhone come out today if it has not been approved by the FCC? Unless it has been and no know checked the FCC web site.

If it's not a significant change, it may not need approval. Or it may simply be that it was already approved, and Apple just hasn't enabled all the features.
e.g. Higher battery capacity wouldn't need approval, nor more memory or a faster processor. It already has a video-capable camera, so that doesn't need any further approval. A digital compass - I'm not sure.
I could be wrong, but I don't think any of the rumored changes would need further approval.

If I'm not mistaken, the radios are not changing. So they would probably not need to get approval for a new device as long as it has the same radio equipment that the 3G had.
One of the rumors I've seen hinted at a 802.11n WiFi capability, and I'm guessing that would probably need approval if it were present, but that's about it.

The radio IS upgrading, because the iPhone 3GS support 7.2 HSDPA. BUT Apple has the option of telling the FCC to wait on publishing an acceptance report until after its WWDC introduction.

Interesting, to say the least. I'll have to run by my ATT store and play the dumb guy interested in a 3G iPhone soon (can't miss they keynote!)

Or, they are all in the back being updated to iPhone OS 3.0

FCC doesn't have to release until after a product launch

Can't wait to know what is coming. I already got surprised when my software update today caught an updated iTunes for the new iPhone OS 3.0 http://twitpic.com/6wnki

That update came out last week
tellarhk said 12:53PM on 6-08-2009
I'm wondering if they may have pulled them to replace them with OS 3.0 based models, instead of new physical hardware.

I'd say that's a good sign that the 3.0 will be released today but no new hardware. The geniuses probably have them in the back and are updating their firmware.

Oh man. This is very realistic :(

Anyone thought of the fact that maybe the 3g units with the 2.x firmware are being pulled so that that the 3g Units with 3.x firmware can go out and the actual new iPhone itself will still have a highly anticipated July launch? Makes sense to me....

My local Best Buy was missing iPhone demo units this weekend too (it's a location that has one of the mini Apple stores inside.)
