Store hours to change for iPhone 3G S launch

Apple and AT&T are preparing for the launch of the iPhone 3G S on June 19th by opening their doors early. Specifically, many Apple Stores will be open at 8:00 AM. Of course, the phones will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, so standing in line with your credit card might not guarantee you a handset on launch day. Go through the pre-order process if you're concerned.

Additionally, AT&T stores have setup pre-ordering online, and customers who take advantage will be able to show up at 7:00 AM. For more detail about AT&T's plans, check out Seth's video above.

Good luck, shoppers. Is it crazy that I want the white one?

You out there thinking that you are entitled to lower price even though u haven't completed a full 2 years are next to retarded. In no way, whatsoever, is this att's fault. You signed up for 2 years and there ya go, you made a commitment. So stop being so ignorant

So, if I "reserve" an iPhone through Apple.com, asking to pick it up at a specific store, and agreeing to pick it up by the close of business day the 19th, I'm still not guaranteed I'll get a phone? My "reservation" doesn't actually reserve anything?

Have you ever called a restaurant to make a reservation, only to be told, "You're name is in our reservations books. Tables are first come/first served. We don't guarantee you a table."

I'm confused.

Yes. Outback Steakhouse, to name one, does exactly that. They have what's called "call ahead" (pre-qualification, if you will).

One of my friends got burned due to this policy. They had call-ahead reservations at 7, and could have been early. A group that was supposed to arrive at 5:30 didn't arrive until 6:30, and so they were still at the table my friend had "reserved".

A bit of a stretch, but it fits: Hey, we know you're coming. If we have a seat (phone) available for you, you'll get seated quickly. But, if we've run out, sorry, you'll have to wait until we get more.

Boy, did I see this coming. Just do the math, the time frame Apple used to introduce the 3G & especially the 3GS had to leave a lot of people in the middle of their contract. AT&T could care less about their client base or the expiration of their contracts & it is foolish of anyone to think otherwise. Look at how they haven't even prepared for the 7mbps data rate the new 3GS supports & how you'll not see MMS or Tethering (which will be an additonal charge) for months down the road. If I was going to accept an expensive contract just to own a 3GS I sure as heck wouldn't like that I could be 6 months into my contract before these functions are even working. Talk about not getting what you're paying for.

Ok look, I understand the concept of subsidy and all that, but AT&T is making a huge mistake.

Let's look at the raw numbers.

Assuming you bought an 8GB iPhone for $199- let's say you have some type of texting plan, so let's say your plan averages at about $100 per month.
AT&T pays Apple for each iPhone:
http://apple20.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/06/19/what-att-pays-apple-for-the-iphone/

Even if you went with the guy that says ATT pays apple 700 for each phone, ATT has made plenty more than the subsidized cost. (and assuming you have a $20 texting plan, they made $240 of basically pure profit.)

Since last June, when the phone launched, you have paid AT&T over $1200.

AT&T is making a killing on the iPhone, and their investment has paid off tenfold from all the new customers.

If they want to keep that up, they would give existing iPhone users a break.

I hope they'll buckle from all this pressure.

I wonder if Apple has any ideas of how many Units they ARENT SELLING because of the horrid AT@T policies, I personlly know 10 people that will NOT be buying New iPhones simply because they Cannot because of AT&T. Many would have no trouble adding 2 years on from right now (making some people into 3 year contract holders by the way). No I hope Apple is Getting out of AT&T and they do for US Phone users what they did for us Music fans with iTunes etc... AT&T IS STOPPING ME FROM BUYING A NEW iPHONE!!!

I am going to pre-order and have it shipped to me, no need to wait in lines. But what happens, when they ship it to you, Do you then have to bring it in the store to get activated? can i just take my sim card out of my 3g one and put it in the 3gs? like how does it get activated?

I like the white one. It's the one I ordered. I think the white 3Gs look a lot nicer than the black ones.

I have the white one and I used to once think that White is for gals and black is for guys but not anymore! White is hot comparatively - there are truckloads of black iPhones everywhere!

Something about that video made me what to punch that guy in the face. Especially during the close ups.

It's a combo of the smarmy look on his face, and the fact his head is always tilted to the side...

I want to punch him, too.

I was really hoping that he'd tilt over at some point.
