Are you really Sirius? Streaming radio iPhone app expected this week
In what may be one of the great anti-climax stories of all time, it looks like Sirius/XM is finally releasing an iPhone/iPod touch app this week, probably on the 18th.Subscribers who asked about the app are getting the following email... apparently Sirius support team members are paid! by the exclamation point!
Thank you for contacting SIRIUS regarding whether or not there is a SIRIUS iPhone application available. We are here to help! We appreciate the time you have taken to contact us in regards to this matter! We are happy to inform you that beginning June 18th a SIRIUS Internet Radio application will be available at the Apple iTunes App-Store for the iPhone and the iPod Touch! All Premium SIRIUS Internet Radio subscribers will be able to download the application from the Apple iTunes App-Store for free on their device and access the service at no additional cost! Subscribers who are listening to the Basic Online Service for free must first upgrade to the Premium Online Service for $2.99 per month to access the application on the iPhone or iPod Touch.It's been a long and tortured road getting here. Competing players were stopped dead by Apple, and the Sirius player has been talked about ever since the iPhone came out. A couple of weeks ago we reported the app would appear 'real soon' and now it looks like this is the week.
No word as yet on how many channels will play on the app, but this is a highly anticipated release. We hope it's fully compatible with iPhone 3.0.

Too expensive? It's $3 man! No offense, but that should not be expensive to anyone that can afford the AT&T iphone plan...we must all be rich with what they charge!!

@Jon:
It is $3 extra A MONTH.
And that is on top of the $13 monthly fee for Sirius XM.
Try again.

@alex
It's $3 extra for an EXTRA service. Not $3 extra for the same service.
I would love for it to be free, but Sirius is not exactly a cash rich company. They are struggling to survive. I for one enjoy their service and I am willing to pay extra if given extra, especially if it helps the service to continue.
No one is being forced to pay extra, only those that choose to do so.
Also, there are free alternatives.
Well, I should say free from monthly service charges. They are Orb Live (use usirius at home with orb...google it), and the other that I believe was mentioned here is Pocket Tunes (available in the app store)
There. I "tried again".

@Jon
well it is an extra $3 no matter how you cut it, if you want to use the app. That is, of course, if you have to pay for Internet streaming on top of your monthly fee (some people got grandfathered in). If you use the free alternatives you won't be able to use this app anyway.
To boil it down: it costs $16/month to have Sirius XM and to be able to listen using this app.
As an aside, based on Sirius' previous software and hardware I don't have a lot of faith in this app being very good either.

Too bad Sirius stopped carrying programming I gave a damn about in the first moves to merge with XM.

Guess what people.... Once againHoward Stern listeners are f#$% the only channel I care about is off course not available on the Iphone App. What the f$%@ we pay for a service and we get ripped off?
Get it together if there was no Howard Stern on Sirius/XM I along with millions more would NOT pay for satellite radio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait until the SIRI App comes out. I will have to give up my blackberry and get a new Iphone (only if it will transmit a signal to my car stereo so I can listen through my car speakers). I heard it will be able to do this and if so, Hello new AT&T Customer & New Iphone owner.

Can't wait, I'm in!!
I still have a year of "free" service left with the unit that came in my car...I'll have to fork over the $3 but I'm ok with that as long as the app is reliable.

Does anyone know if AT&T solved the 3G bandwidth issue? I heard that the release of the app was being delayed because of the data load that would be coming across the 3G network. I bought my iPhone in anticipation of this app and I've been waiting patiently!! And a Baba Booey to you all
