Things to do while waiting for the iPhone update

Today is a day of waiting. Waiting for Apple to send out the version 3.0 update. Waiting for the update to download. Waiting for the firmware to update, and then the restore of your apps and settings to finish. That's a lot of screen staring. Here's some helpful hints on things you can do while you wait.... and wait.
  • Consider how nice it would be to send an MMS, but that involves more waiting (if you're an AT&T customer), maybe until fall
  • Think about how to unload your current iPhone on eBay so you can get the 3G S and go through more reloading fun
  • Pretend you can tether (thanks AT&T)
  • Start making a list of all the missing features in version 3.0
  • Prepare a note to TUAW saying reception is much better with the update (or worse)
  • Prepare a note to TUAW complaining that reception hasn't changed
  • Plan what your first tune will be after you update, or who you will call first (but they are updating too and won't be able to answer)
  • Dream about your first copy and paste
See, it's easy to pass the time. Happy updating! What will you be doing?

"Wonder to yourself 'why is Apple's server called Phobos?'"

My GF works in a neuroscience lab and their servers are named for brain areas (cortex, striatum, etc). Not sure what significance Phobos has for them...

probably not significant. we have a machine named phobos as well.

typically you try to give related names for machines that serve the same purpose - makes things easier to remember for the admins and support personnel

our webservers are named after famous authors - salinger, dickinson, twain, etc.

our app servers are named after disney chars- mickey, donald, pluto... and so on

our infrastructure servers are names after subatomic particles - electron, photon, neutron

I have AT&T and I've had the GM build of 3.0 installed for about a week. There's a carrier update file called att_us.ipcc that enables mms and tethering. However, you need a beta build of iTunes in order to option+check for update, because iTunes 8.2 Greys out those types of files. Again, I've been sending MMS' and tethering for about a week.

I'm curious about that ipcc file. I can tether, but not send MMS. (on 3.0 GM)

@49, be carefull because 3.0 backups cannot be restored on a 2.x device, so If you return to 2.2.1 and make a backup, your real backup (made with 3.0 will be lost)
