TUAW First Look: Twittelator Pro 3.0

Despite all of the hoopla the last few days about TweetDeck becoming available for iPhone, I decided to stick with a tried and true friend -- Twittelator Pro. My loyalty was rewarded with a new version of the iPhone Twitter client that takes advantage of many of the features of iPhone OS 3.0.

Twittelator Pro 3.0
[App Store] is priced at US$4.99 for new users, and the upgrade is free for owners of previous versions. The app is from Andrew Stone's BigStonePhone, and builds upon capabilities of the new iPhone OS. Along with the existing features such as offline tweeting, a built-in browser, and being able to handle multiple Twitter accounts, Twittelator Pro 3.0 now adds the following goodies to 3.0 iPhones:
  • Record, edit, and tweet video with the 3G S
  • Record and tweet audio
  • Copy, paste, select, select all, and undo text (shake to undo)
  • Paste photos into tweets
  • Compose and send email from within the app
  • Get a zoomable map of a tweeter's location
My personal favorite feature is the built-in browser in Twittelator Pro, which keeps me in the app while I'm tapping on links. I've also been able to delete one other Twitter/geolocation app off of my iPhone thanks to the tweeter location maps.

Be sure to check out the gallery below for a plethora of pithy pictures of this great app.

has anyone noticed that in twittelator pro 3.0 the "replies" tab at the bottom don't show the badge anymore at start up like the "friends" tab does. It used to do it in 2.x.

maybe i just need to download again. can anyone help?

Thanks for the tip. This app looks awesome. Very thorough. Think I'll abandon Twitterific - you've nailed most of the reasons I haven't used it on my iPhone as much.

Why on Earth would anybody want push notifications for Twitter? Seriously have you seen how much certain people "tweet"? Some have fits where they post almost every second for considerable time. Do you want continuously appearing popup alerts or a badge notification count in the thousands? Twitter isn't email. You aren't meant to read everything that the people you follow post. Similarly I don't want to know everytime they post. My iPhone battery would be sucked dry from all those alerts.

Does Twittlelator Pro have a feature to search for Tweeple that are near you?

I love this in Twitterriffic: not available in TweetDeck AFAIK, and that plus the frequent crashes and bugs are a bit of a turn-off for me.

"Copy, paste, select, select all, and undo text (shake to undo)"

Um, isn't that an OS 3.0 function, not just Twittelator 3? I can do that in TwitterFon, Twitterrific, and Tweetie on OS 3.0.

It's also worth pointing out that the select/cut/copy/paste and undo features are system-wide on the iPhone 3.0 OS, and not something specific to any particularly Twitter client, or any other app, for that matter -- any app that uses standard text-entry fields (which almost ALL do), can take advantage of the enhanced editing features.

Does anyone know if we can have the same sort of video/audio uploads with the iPhone 3G and Jailbreak? That would be awesome!

Every twitter client I've used on my iTouch includes a built-in browser so is there something with Twittelator Pro's that makes it better? At the moment my favorite client is the free version of Twitterfon because it's the only one whose browser supports landscape. The browsers in Twitterific and TweetDeck do not support landscape.

Twittelator Pro is the worlds best kept secret in my opinion. I couldn't write enough good stuff about it honestly and I have no affiliation. I would even give these guys another $5 I don't have, they are so on it. Great UI. More options than any other Twitter app. All other apps in my opinion are chasing this one. Customer service is great and they again, are ahead of the curve. Trust me.
