Ultrasn0w for 3G, OS 3.0 is out -- 3GS not yet

If you know what Ultrasn0w is, then you maybe just did a little happy dance. If you don't: it unlocks your iPhone to work on other carriers. If you don't care for AT&T, for example, you can use Ultrasn0w on T-Mobile. One tip: you'll have to disable 3G for T-Mobilers in the US of A. Lucky us, eh? Ultrasn0w doesn't magically add CDMA powers to your iPhone, so give up your dreams, Sprint, Verizon and just-about-everyone-else-customers.

As usual, iPod Touch 2nd Gen not supported again. Does really seem to be the bastard child.

@Drifter71, UltraSn0w does not work on the 2nd Gen iPod Touch, as simmilar with the first iPod touch, the thing doesnt even have a sim card, so why develop a tool to unlock it? RedSn0w now works fine with the 2nd gen, so you can jailbreak it, i dont see why anyone would be at all surprised, or complain about lack of 2nd Gen iPod touch support. The point of UltraSn0w is to unlock the iPhone 3G to work on any carrier worldwide. The iPod Touch 2nd Gen, or any iPod touch for that matter, doesnt have a carrier because it isnt a phone.

My usual Mac tutorials are up for using ultrasn0w along with jailbreaking.

I'm going to Europe and now I don't have to take one up the poop chute from AT&T while I'm there!

What is also annoying is that I'm on a ATT plan at work for my Blackberry. This is an unlimited Blackberry plan and the only plan my company supports. So if I want to use my iphone (purchased off Craig's List) with my work plan, I have unlock it.

This is insane to me, I have a ATT SIM and a high-end data plan but because my account doesn't have a "Iphone plan", I have to resort to unlocking my phone to use it on the ATT network.

This is useless in the US, in my opinion.

For all the reasons you mention... it can't run on Verizon or Sprint anyway, so unlocking only gives you access to Tmobile here in the US. But the iphone has no 1700 mhz radio, which is what Tmobile uses in the US for 3G. So it will max out at Edge speeds on Tmobile. Who wants that?

Unfortunately, we are stuck with AT&T for any 3G use in the US unless Apple comes out with a iphone that has a 1700 mhz radio or an LTE iphone that will run on Verizon's 4G network. But neither will happen until 2010 at the earliest.

So unlocking your iphone is really only useful if you travel to Europe or Asia and want to use a pre-paid SIM instead of pay AT&T's international roaming rates.

However, the jailbreaking part is still very useful. I love my Itelliscreen app!

T-Mobile EDGE data is only $5 a month. And its actually pretty decent speeds for what it is.

First you say it's useless and then explain all its uses! Lol.

#1 lots of us in the US do travel out of the country and use local prepaid sims

#2 a few of us are fine using EDGE only in the us because we have wifi 90% of the time. What would be nice though is if tmo's data plan were chaper for edge only (it's $25 regardless)
