Apple updates Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station firmware

Last night Apple released a firmware update for Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n. Here are the fixes:
  • Fixes some problems with extending and maintaining connectivity with extended networks
  • Fixes an issue with clients that enable 802.11 "Power Save"
  • Fixes connectivity issues with some third-party devices
  • Fixes an issue when the base station is configured for PPPoE
  • Fixes some Back To My Mac issues with connectivity and support for third-party routers
All of those sound like issues that could affect quite a few people -- especially those with (gasp!) "third-party" devices. I've certainly had issues with Back To My Mac using a Netgear router, so we'll see if this helps. In any event, firmware updates are recommended especially if you've had any of the above symptoms.

Fire up your Airfoil again, boys -- RogueAmoeba has already updated it for full compatibility with the Airport update.

Way to go, Rogue Amoeba!

I installed the update on my 1TB first gen. Time Capsule and my wireless range is all but non-existent. I used to be able to use my laptops (plural) upstairs with full strength but now they don't connect and when they do it's for about 15 seconds with one bar. Joy.

Guess I'll stick with a wired connection for now.

My dad applied these updates on his Time Capsule and now the first back up is one from Nov 2008 and all his Mail back ups are gone. Apple do we have any effin quality control anymore?

I can't update. It's stuck "searching for latest firmware" and won't let me cancel it or quit Airport Utility. It's been like this for the past hour.

Anyone notice this update breaking the stored keychain password for the network? My wife updated her parent's base station, and it lost the password... They're using a 17" macbook pro (last model pre-unibody) with an extreme base station (n & gigabit but not dual broadcasting) and the wireless network is set to not broadcast the SSID.

It appears to break airfoil though, Couldn't get it to connect with 7.4.2, dropped back to 7.4.1 and connected no problem.

@wes

FYI....
No it doesn't. Any "breaks" are specific to your machine/set-up.

Airfoli works as perfect as it always has.
In my case, to four different Airports (4 different stereos) throughout my house.
:)

This Airport update broke Airfoil, which I use to stream music from Pandora to a stereo. Anyone else with same problem, or suggestions?

Rogue Amoeba released a 3.3.1 update to Airfoil that says it fixes the problem with 7.4.2.

I, like many users complaining in Apple support forums, was having severe internet issues with my second generation touch since the 3.0 update. I expected an update to my iPod to fix it, but this fix for my airport extreme did the job.

I have a single band time capsule 802.11n Time Capsule and my Mac didn't pull down the update. I guess it's just for the dual band Time Capsules.

Single Band? I thought all AEBS(s) are dual band. In the wireless/Radio Mode drop down you can hold down the option key and it will display the 'full' list of radio modes.
