A (slightly) new look for MobileMe
When I logged into MobileMe this morning, I noticed that my iDisk icon looked a bit different ... it now resembles the one representing the forthcoming iDisk app for the iPhone. It's not the only visual tweak to MobileMe. The Settings icon has received a refresh, and Mail has been changed to look more like its desktop counterpart, showing the count of unread items next to their respective folders.
A look at the status history for MobileMe shows that maintenance was performed late last night on the web apps, resulting in the new look throughout the site. Other changes to MobileMe include:
- The Help menu is now accessible from the toolbar.
- Mail forwarding and replies now retain original formatting.
- All messages on MobileMe can now be searched from the iPhone or iPod Touch.
- Automatic album creation from the iPhone or iPod Touch with version 3.0 software.
- iPhone 3GS users can publish video to MobileMe.
- iPhone contacts maintain ringtone associations after syncing with MobileMe.
- Option to merge contacts and calendars on first sync.
- Turning off sync will enable users to still keep a copy of their data on their device rather than wiping it.

MobileMe still doesn't display a proper time stamp for e-mails. Only the local American ("AM/PM") format is available even for accounts using another language than English.

Right now it's all or nothing which I can't use due to how I have the desktop setup. I still can't believe it's taken them this long and it's still not fixed. :(

Calendar subscriptions in iCal are showing up on my iPhone, but not in the MobileMe web app. If I delete the subscription from iCal, it deletes from the phone, without having ever shown up in MobileMe. Very strange...
The desktop version of Mail.app allows me to add IMAP accounts, but the MobileMe version only allows POP3 accounts to be added.
I'd like the IMAP functionality added to the MobileMe version too :-)
I have to disagree with the gentleman who said that "ringtone sync has always been there." I haven't synced my MobileMe Contacts over the air in months. I would try every so often, but every time I did, my specific ringtones would be wiped out after every single sync OTA.
Instead I synced via iTunes only. Not a big deal, but it's much nicer to not have to go back and assign the 3 ringtones I have to family/etc.
So unless ringtone sync was "selective," this is the first time (tried this morning) I've synced my Contacts with the cloud and my contact-specific ringtones have NOT all gone back to default after a sync.
MobileMe is a pretty terrible service when compared to the $$. If it weren't for the fact that i have had my email and my family email there forever - I would give it up & use google (free.) No spam filtering on mobileme mail, no filters, no auto updating of emails (file an email on your phone and it doesn't file in mobile me.)

Is there any way to sync the read status with the Mail app, so I don't have to keep marking messages from weeks ago as read?
So glad they updated the iDisk icon. I hated that fuscia color. Hopefully this also means the iDisk iPhone app isn't far behind.

Can't see why a small thumbnail piccy for each file can't be utilized- at least show a preview with the rest of the info when you click on each one rather than all at the same time.
