A (slightly) new look for MobileMe
When I logged into MobileMe this morning, I noticed that my iDisk icon looked a bit different ... it now resembles the one representing the forthcoming iDisk app for the iPhone. It's not the only visual tweak to MobileMe. The Settings icon has received a refresh, and Mail has been changed to look more like its desktop counterpart, showing the count of unread items next to their respective folders.
A look at the status history for MobileMe shows that maintenance was performed late last night on the web apps, resulting in the new look throughout the site. Other changes to MobileMe include:
- The Help menu is now accessible from the toolbar.
- Mail forwarding and replies now retain original formatting.
- All messages on MobileMe can now be searched from the iPhone or iPod Touch.
- Automatic album creation from the iPhone or iPod Touch with version 3.0 software.
- iPhone 3GS users can publish video to MobileMe.
- iPhone contacts maintain ringtone associations after syncing with MobileMe.
- Option to merge contacts and calendars on first sync.
- Turning off sync will enable users to still keep a copy of their data on their device rather than wiping it.

For those looking for an iDisk alternative try Dropbox.

I just read the fine print and you must download and install the application in order to receive the extra 250mb. It looks like it is part of the finder. It works well.
Moderator: sorry for referral the link.

I still with there was OTA Note syncing, plus the ability to view synced notes on me.com. Oh well, maybe with iPhone OS 4.0, iPhone 4G and Mac OS X 10.7 and MacBook Pro (Late 2011).

Add To-Do's syncing to that!
I can't believe that Apple still hasn't enabled us to take our checklists with us...

Nice updates, but they still don't address basic calendaring shortcomings! Let us accept meeting invitations from me.com and the iPhone! Please!

I'm pretty sure a couple of those things were already available.
"All messages on MobileMe can now be searched from the iPhone or iPod Touch." - I've been doing that since the 3.0 release. I wish you could replace the me.com email account with an outside one and still use the MobileMe features on it.
"iPhone 3GS users can publish video to MobileMe." - Again, I tested this over a week ago, so I don't think it just happened last night.
"iPhone contacts maintain ringtone associations after syncing with MobileMe" - I'm not sure I understand this one or it is, again, a feature that has already been there. My wife and I share contacts via MobileMe. Even back in 2.2.1, she had specific ringtones for some of her family and when they would call me, I would also get that ringtone (without having ever done anything to that contact on my own phone). It doesn't work, however, if it is a custom ringtone and the other person doesn't have the same one.
"Turning off sync will enable users to still keep a copy of their data on their device rather than wiping it." - Again, this is a 3.0 feature that has been there since the first betas. A couple of months ago, the sync data was off on my phone, so I removed the MobileMe account and it asked if I wanted to keep the data after removing the account. Of course, you want to wipe it if you are removing it to fix a syncing issue, but the option to keep it was there.
"Automatic album creation from the iPhone or iPod Touch with version 3.0 software." - What does that mean? Does it mean that if you select photos/movies to send to a MobileMe gallery that you can create a new album for them rather than adding them to an existing album?

Okay.. So I tested the 'automatic album creation' and I still can't figure out what that does. It does not create a new album in the MobileMe gallery like I thought it might. Can anyone shed some light on this feature?

Before they added this feature, you had to create an album using the web site and change the settings to allow uploading via e-mail or iPhone. It looks like MobileMe Gallery "virgins" can now send a photo or video from their iPhone and a new album with the appropriate settings will be created automatically.

This stuff looks pretty good. I'm glad that they continue to add features and functionality to MobileMe, as it adds more value to the service, and makes me want to keep paying for it.

MobileMe is one of those services I would love to use more. I've had it for over six months and every time I try to use it, it seems so very slow. I just gave it another try I kept getting the following error and BTW, there is nothing wrong with my connection. I won't renew this service. Even when it works without error messages, it just seems too slow.

Unable to connect to MobileMe
We are unable to connect to MobileMe. This might be a problem with your internet connection or MobileMe's servers are temporarily unavailable.
If you have lost your network connection, you will not be able to connect to MobileMe. If you can still connect to the internet, check MobileMe's status to see if there are known service problems.

MobileMe seems very slow today. I was doing some testing, and it took much longer than normal to upload pictures from my 3GS

Formatting is *FINALLY* retained.
This has been such a horrid oversight. I am very happy to see it addressed. Now if they can resolve the discarding of drafts I'll be a content MobileMe user.

I am very disappointed that there is still no preview for files, so if you have uploaded some photos to iDisk, you can't see which ones are which until you download them- same for any documents etc.

Anyone else had problems with sent messages not showing up in their Sent folders on the web interface or their iPhones? And the little "reply" icon doesn't show up next to messages you've replied to? It's getting frustrating.
Nice icons, though. :)

Also, as Johhny said, I was already able to upload videos from my iPhone 3GS. The only problem I have with it is that it uploads them to MobileMe photo albums, where the AppleTV doesn't even recognize them! The AppleTV only sees videos uploaded to the Videos section created by iMovie, and so it needs new firmware to rectify that. As usual, the AppleTV is getting left behind everything else.
