iTunes Store & App Store problems
With the App Store celebrating its first birthday, there is a fair amount of news coverage, and with Michael Jackson's memorial service being broadcast, his fans are sure to be hitting iTunes up for some of their favorite songs. So it stands to reason that today is probably not a good day for the iTunes store to be having problems. Don't you just love Murphy's Law?Reports have been steadily coming in for the past few hours that users are unable to download songs, searches are timing out, and the App Store is not working properly from the iPhone. Several users have also posted threads on the iTunes discussion board with connection problems.
I myself had troubles with searching for music from iTunes earlier today, but things seemed to be working better a short while later, so I figured things were fixed. Since then, however, we have received several other reports of troubles, yet things are working fine for me still. So it seems that this could be chalked up to routing troubles depending on your location, or it may just be intermittent and I've been lucky.
Either way, it's safe to say that there is definitely something going on, although exactly what it is remains a question. Searching seems to be working, albeit a bit slowly, and downloads are working fine for me, but others have reported not being able to download at all. As they say, YMMV (your mileage may vary).
Are you having troubles with either of the stores? Let us know in the comments.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I cannot buy or download from either app store for nearly two weeks! This is totally frustrating. Help!
September 17 2009 at 12:32 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI was not able to rent a movie last night because iTunes was not recognizing the security code from my credit card. Once it did finally accept the correct code I had been entering for 5 minutes, it timed out with anything I tried to download.

I dislike intensive pronoun usage. "ugh" is how I would say it if I were speaking aloud, so that's how I write it.
;)
Haha, well put. Err... that should be "put well," according to Sir Churchill. :-)

Your posts have been a pleasure to read - I was just being silly. Keep up the great work!
msnbc had a whole thing about internet traffic being high today around the time of this article and the seemingly slow connection in relationship to the mass amount of people tapping into the servers around the world to watch the king of pops funeral. so i pin it on that. i was in and out of the app store and itunes store several times today without a hitch...isolated incident...i think so.
millions watch michael jackson's funeral, yet only a handful show up at Jesus' tomb...weird world we live in these days.
"I myself..."
As opposed to "I someone else"?
ugh.
Although you may not care for the usage, in this case "myself" is considered an intensive pronoun, and is correct English. So yes, it is not necessary and could easily be removed from the sentence without altering the meaning.
The choice to use it is simply dependent on the author's writing style, and in this case, that's how I would say it if I were speaking aloud, so that's how I write it. :-)
The Dark Knight and Batman Begins are gone from the store :(

iPhoto tells me that the galleries aren't accessible, and wants to delete them - MobileMe just reports the standard "MobileMe is unvailable" error when the page fails to load.
Oh my god I almost killed myself earlier today. Nothing was working. Am still getting 'cannot connect' messages on the iPhone.
As others have said, glad to find this wasn't just me.
I'm having trouble listening to new voicemails on the 3GS. Anyone else having this problem?
July 07 2009 at 4:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI just bought an IPhone today and I've not been able to download anything except for free podcasts, if what you want to download seems to be related to your account (computer authorization for the store, downloading apps, retrieving account information) then you may find it not working. Both my desktop and laptop are giving the same network error:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection timed out.
Make sure you network settings are correct and that your network connection is active, then try again.
