iPhone supplies dwindle in Canada
Our neighbors to the north are grumbling about the lack of 3GS iPhones. The major suppliers, Fido and Rogers, are both reporting they are sold out pretty much across the country. Some Apple Stores in Canada have them in stock, but a couple of calls revealed that even Apple Stores are often out of stock. Both Rogers and FIDO say new shipments will arrive in 'weeks,' and that back orders are being filled on a priority basis. No dates are being given, and buyers are being told to check back with their local stores or online.
There were similar shortages in Canada and the UK earlier this month. During the Apple conference call last Tuesday, COO Tim Cook said iPhone demand has been "staggering in almost every country we've shipped in."
Apple will need to fix this issue pretty fast. The company says it is going to release the new iPhone to 20 more countries on August 22.

Lost iphone, then ordered a new iphone 3Gs , told wait 3 days to arrive...one month passes without word. I try to purchase in store but am refused because my order must be cancelled first, I am told conflictingly that it is instant and can buy in store and others saying it takes a few days to cancel. I then book an appointment at the Apple store 5 days ahead. I phone to cancel my order but I cannot cancel because order has been shipped, please wait to cancel until after it arrives ("5 days"-yeah, right, good joke!)
canceling my order means canceling any chance of getting an iphone, then hoping that one pops up at random(usually two per store once a week)not a business of supplying network devices and support. This is a device for the modern workplace but is not handled so(you need a business device then why not just buy an old 3G? because I cannot only can buy the 3Gs using upgrade pricing or the old phone)
so to a robot it may not be so odd, I am not a robot nor is the persons selling service to me.
Therefore I expect a normal human would allow me to buy the rare iphone 3Gs in store and then work out the cancel order/upgrade pricing afterwards, no problem, like a human.
I do not work for the computer it works for me. I must wait for the computer to process an order before I can go to a store and get a phone!?! just process the computer work after I get a replacement device, I've paid $80 for a data plan that I cannot use this month? I don't think so, my patience is great, so great that I can wait for Telus or others to provide a GSM network.
having been misinformed, rudely treated, manipulated, financially defrauded, etc ad nauseum, I have to wait for this iphone to arrive and then I will cancel with rogers and sell the iphone. if I get an iphone I will get the australian or hong kong international unlocked officially by Apple version.drive to the U.S.? The country I was born guarantees me an 8 hour interview with my sphincter to enter. Unlock not supported and not as stable.
Just got back from the Rogers store in Moncton, NB with two shinny new 16GB iPhones 3GS!!! One black, one white. Yes!

Steve Jobs is still CEO. The original post says COO - at least it
does for me.
Supply shortages are nothing new with Apple products in Canada. The iPhone is just getting a little more coerage.
July 29 2009 at 12:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySame story here. T-Mobile, the exclusive carrier for the iPhone in Hungary, will start selling the 3GS this Friday, but only on eleven cities, due to Apple supply shortages.

And for a 16GB-model I was on a waiting list - and I didn't notice the call from the telco-shop. Some hours later the 16GB-models were out of stock again but I had luck and they still had 32GB-models.
The iPhone 3GS has been "out of stock" consistently since launch in Belgium. I tried to buy one on launch day and still have been unable to find one a month later. What is worse is that you can't actually order an iPhone. Everything seems to be first-come, first-served so you have to hope that you walk into either a Mobistar store or independent Apple Reseller on the day that they receive a unit or 2. Why the heck I can't at least order a device directly from Apple is quite beyond me since the phone is sold unlocked and I have no obligation to take a Mobistar contract. The situation is much the same in Italy yet they have stock and you can order directly from Apple online.
Frankly, the whole situation blows. Whoever planned the launch of the new phone made a cock of it. Last heard it could be anything up to 2-months before I see a device.
Hi! I am in USA, what is the price for iphone in Canana? I am going to Vancourver in a couple weeks, will I be lucky and are they factory unlocked? or may be I just pick one up in Portland, Oregon with no tax. Thanks
July 28 2009 at 10:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replythey are not factory unlocked. Price: $199/299 on contract or 699/799 off contract. you can purplesn0w them or ultrasn0w them, but you're prolly best off chillin with AT&T in the US of A.
July 28 2009 at 10:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow is it that there is such a shortage everywhere but US? Is there a problem with the iPhone that nobody is talking about? Are they making some last minute changes to the manufacturing? I don't know how much longer I am willing to wait for an iPhone.... Blackberry is starting to look pretty good to me right now. And if Palm Pre was already available in Canada.... Hey Bell Canada... are you listening? This may be your opportunity to kick some Rogers ass!
July 28 2009 at 9:59 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWoah, woah, woah! Bell being better than Rogers isn't possible.
