You have waited with varying degrees of patience, but your wait is over: the MobileMe iDisk app, in all its officialness, is now available on the App Store. The iDisk app allows you to view the contents of your MobileMe iDisk straight from your iPhone, and offers some nice options, such as adjusting the amount of local storage used on the phone for recently viewed files.
Does it live up to your expectations? Check it out, and be sure to tell us in the comments what you think about it!

Have been using it a bit and I must say I'm pretty impressed. The UI is smooth and friendly, and having MobileFiles (Free) to compare it against I am much more pleased with the stability of this app so far (**crosses fingers**). I would like to be able to move things around between folders etc, but this functionality does not seem to be there as of yet. I also like the ability of MobileFiles to download and store the documents locally so that you don't have to wait for them to download each time, but on Wi-Fi most of the documents seem to transfer pretty quickly. The "Public Folders" tab is also pretty neat, except for the fact that none of my friends have MobileMe accounts so it's not functionality I have a lot of use for yet. Best of all things though is that this is FREE, so of course it is well worth the price ;)

It would be great if apple would implement iDisk sharing functionality in the Photos app... Now I can see shared files, but cannot post new files onto the iDisk

This just what I have been looking for. I have been using the app for about 30 mins now and I love it. There are still a few bugs to work out I think. I Was viewing a 2.1mb PDF and the scrolling was real slow. But other than that I love the app

Same here, Photos from my phone can go to Mobile me but is put under sites, I want an 'idisk' option in Photos and a choice to where the photos go. This is just a file viewer which has been out by another company for a while now. Useless unless I can choose file transfers too/from 'iDisk' to iPhone

Hazah! At last. Going to try this out right now :)

Finally... just downloaded and tested the sharing feature about 5 minutes ago and works great. Overall it's still simple but works!
Audio and Video streams and does not cache locally. Other documents are saved to a 200MB Maximum cache.

Well, it did a good job of letting me delete some old files and open up a Microsoft Word file for viewing, but it did a really poor job of displaying a Keynote presentation. Still, all in all I think it's a pretty good app for a first try, and I can't wait to see if Apple decides to build more MobileMe functionality into it.

I can't copy/paste text fragments from pages docs: the text is tiny and hard to read. Word docs actually work slightly better.
I was hoping for some kind of text reformatting to fit documents to the small screen à la Opera Mini browser - but no.
Can't copy images to camera roll - pity.
Maybe I'm too critical, which is entirely possible, but this is in no way better than, e.g. MobileFiles, and I was really hoping that Apple would leverage its own privileged position in the iPhone field to produce something stunning.

update: i tried to read an (admittedly huge) 26MB PDF on the iPhone - ik takes a very long time to load (on wifi) and it finally crashed when it was two thirds done. Also, you have to keep your phone awake all the time cause when it goes to sleep the download stops and starts again.
Is this what we had to wait so long for?

I'm with you. I don't think there is anything so great about this. It basically looks just like MobileFiles. Now I use QuickOffice which is the same, but with editing capabilities. I guess it's nice that they finally put one out there and it is free, though.

I've never been compelled to comment on tuaw but honestly this app sucks. Sande is right, Apple could and should have done much better. First & foremost, allowing quickoffice to access docs for editing is a no-brainer. As someone who has been a (painfully) loyal subscriber to .mac and mobileme for something like 4 or 5 years, add this to the list of items that disappoints in that field. For as seamless and hardware and software integrate everywhere else in the Apple universe, this is just another example of the embarrassment that has been MobileMe.

Maybe I am missing something, but quickoffice can already access idisk without this app. Why is it important to have it in this app?

What iDisk app can't do & Discover app can do: Download file from iDisk. But who's gonna download file to iPhone anyway? - http://twitpic.com/c130k

ads suck on Discover app - why use it when this is free, and ad-less.

Not being able to save images kind of sucks, as it makes you generate an "email" link to go download the app via Safari...
BUT, it knows which of my friends are a MobileMe subscriber (via their @me.com email address) and I can view their public folders very easily.
And being able to stream music and videos over 3G is pretty awesome too.
