iDisk iPhone app arrives, there is much rejoicing
You have waited with varying degrees of patience, but your wait is over: the MobileMe iDisk app, in all its officialness, is now available on the App Store. The iDisk app allows you to view the contents of your MobileMe iDisk straight from your iPhone, and offers some nice options, such as adjusting the amount of local storage used on the phone for recently viewed files.
Does it live up to your expectations? Check it out, and be sure to tell us in the comments what you think about it!

I have to agree with the comment above about iDisk being another example of MobileMe being 2nd rate compare to other Apple endeavors. Just some of the stuff we should be able to do:
-Move files between folders
-chose files we want to cache locally (not just a que), and don't limit us to 200MB.
-Upload pics taken on the iPhone to the pictures folder.
-Get rid of the download limit. Quickoffice lets me download any size file I want to.
-Don't make people sign in when they first start it. The info for MobileMe is already in if you have your email set up, just use that (this might seem petty since it hardly qualifies as an inconvenience, but I think it is more a sign of the haphazardness of MobileMe. The bad part about Apple is the closed enviornment, the good part is things mesh so well together. Don't get sloppy about the good part).
What amazed me is this took them over a year to come out with! If it had been issued when they rebranded .mac last year it would have been nice, but it really is pretty bland for them to have taken 13 months to finally get to.
Here is the real task for Apple. To me Back to My Mac is the only truly great part about MobileMe (spam free email & the iPhone finder are nice too, but BTMM is the one app I really like). How about extending BTMM to the iPhone? Screen sharing might be a stretch, but it should be no big deal for me to access the file directories on my Mac. THAT would have been a great product.
I just got an app that pretty much fits the bill here. DocPrinter does iDisk browsing and Printing too! As well as storing can organizing files locally on the phone.

I downloaded the idisk..love it. MobileMe is great...however, after a few minutes the idisk icon changed from the blue and white cloud to a gray icon with a figure walking. Did this happen to anyone else.. why did this happen. Everything seems tobe working just right...so no biggie..just curious.

iPhone App Icon Design

I was hoping for the iDisk user experience I get on my Mac on iPhone / iPod touch, and, at least with version 1.0, this ain't it.
None of the current crop of iDisk access tools support the Mac OS colored file labels, and Apple no longer offers the iDisk application for Windows, instead giving Windows users the web interface, which pretty much sucks. I was hoping the Apple iDisk app would give Windows users the Mac iDisk experience. I use the mac OSX colored file labels on iDisk all the time to track workflow on small projects, and it would be very handy to be able to *see* these labels on the iPhone / iPod. but this app doesn't do that, in spite of the fact that the iPhone / iPod OS is supposedly "Mac OSX".
I need to be able to create new project folders, and rename files and folders when I log in to my own account. And as other users have pointed out, when I am on my own iDisk, I want access to every one of my files and folders visible on iDisk from my computer.
Because I am paying annually for a Mobile Me account, I was hoping that the iPhone / iPod companion app would far exceed other options like Dropbox, but version 1.0 doesn't get me any closer to managing my iDisk from the iPhone than Dropbox does.
I'm hoping that Apple comes out with some upgrades to this app that give us more control over the files and folders we are already paying for in Mobile Me.
I think it would be nice if I could email a doc out of iDisk but I do not see that option.

July 29 2009 at 3:13 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Reply"iDisk" *is* MobileMe. That's like wanting a Flickr app that wasn't tied to Flickr.
July 29 2009 at 3:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have been waiting a while for this. Does anyone know how to keep a folder on my mac synced with a folder in iDisk. I keep my work files in one folder and it would be great to have access to it through the new iPhone app.
July 29 2009 at 3:12 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJust move/copy the folder you want to keep synced inside your iDisk via the Finder (NOT the web interface, too slow), and it should show up in the same location on the iPhone app.
July 30 2009 at 10:26 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyUseless if, like me, you already have Quickoffice (which has more features anyway).
July 29 2009 at 2:38 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo this means this should come standard with 3.1, right?
July 29 2009 at 2:29 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNot likely. Otherwise, Apple would have probably just waited until 3.1 to release it, but since they published it in the App Store, that's where it will most likely stay.
I'm with you. I don't think there is anything so great about this. It basically looks just like MobileFiles. Now I use QuickOffice which is the same, but with editing capabilities. I guess it's nice that they finally put one out there and it is free, though.
