TUAW Poll: What would you do if an iPhone 4G rolled out on Verizon?
Apparently yesterday's poll about the release date of Mac OS X 10.5.8's made some waves in the Apple swimming pool, since we've seen over 6,400 responses in about 15 hours. That poll also made TUAW reader Clinton hungry for a new poll. He wrote:"Could you do a poll? There is so much speculation about Verizon and a 4G network and the possibility of iPhone going to that platform once it is up and running in 2010. I would like to see a poll to substantiate all the speculation that AT&T customer will leave for Verizon's network if iPhone is available on Verizon's new 4G."
Along with that explanation, Clinton also provided a question and several multiple choice answers. Since he had done most of the hard work, we couldn't help but run this poll. If none of the answers meet your needs, or if you have additional comments to make, please use the comments link below.

Question - would the iPhone be neutered and gingerly caressed by some Verizon OS overlay/feature removal like they do with all their phones?

Probably not, because Apple would never allow that and Verizon would be far too interested in the latest money-making gadget to insist.

Probably not, because Apple would never agree to Verizon's terms -- they'll be looking at T-Mobile, though.

I had a Blackberry on Verizon and there weren't any features removed.

Eric, oh yes there was!! My favorite feature was removed from Verizon BB's: WiFi. -and that's part of the reason I left Vz...
And verizon has been very stingy on software updates.

There's no option for people who are already on Verizon and waiting patiently for this very thing to occur! Please, Apple, let it be sooooo.

Agreed, stuck/loyal Verizon customer just biding my time 'till it finally happens. iPhone + Verizon's network = greatest thing ever.

This is what I looked for. Poll needs a revision.

Depends; would Verizon "crapify"/bastardize/cripple the iPhone 4G like they do with EVERY other phone that they peddle?

I would leave for a EVDO iPhone--it would be much better than the EDGE speeds I get now.

Why is there not a 'rejoice that I don't have to switch to shitty AT&T, can keep my current Verizon contract, and buy one" option?

I'd pick that one :)

I say that I would switch to Verizon, but not sure how much greener the grass is there. Heard from a buddy yesterday that until LTE, they are hamstrung not having data and voice capability simultaneously. Can anyone confirm that?

It's true. Or it was on my Storm.

That is not a "Verizon" thing, but a CDMA thing. You have the same problem(?) on Sprint (or any CDMA carrier).
I have a Sprint 8330, and never really had a problem with that limitation, but I hardly ever talk on my phone.
I would be more concerned about how widespread the LTE network would be. Think about if the iPhone 3G ONLY worked on 3G towers. A LTE iPhone I would doubt would have the legacy CDMA chipset/transmitters.

Big question:
How much would Verizon control the interface and app store availablity (as ATT has done with GoogleVoice App and Slingplayer)?
I can handle Apple's closed-garden approach but if it were mated with Verizon's, the phone on that network could truly be "gimped".
People say Apple would never do that, but look at their deal with China: iPhones w/ no wifi...

Hate Verizon, thanks. I'd rather stick with the incompetent AT&T. The best provider would be Sprint.

I have never been more irritated with a company as Verizon. From their wireless phone service (switched to AT&T before iPhone) to their DSL internet service (combo of incompetence, indifference, lies and billing errors), they have been the worst company I've ever dealt with. Not even XO reaches their level of disservice.
