Save a little on your existing AT&T iPhone plan

Update: It appears that this post describes a sponsorship discount (business/school/etc). Those users get a percentage off of their monthly plan ($29.99 voice plan and iPhone data charge excluded). Those who do not see this as an option lack the corporate discount; those who do are seeing what the monthly service cost is after the discount is applied.
Go here to see if you qualify for the corporate discount.
Note that this discount only applies to the voice plan and not to the iPhone data plan. Nor does it apply to the additional lines in a family plan.
Looking to save a little on your monthly iPhone rates? AT&T just announced a price break but you do have to opt-in. It's not automatic. You can save from $6/month on the Nation 450 with rollover up to $12/month on the Nation 1350. The Unlimited plan remains unaffected.
So what's the downside of all this? You may lose some or all of your rollover minutes by converting to the new plan price. So check the fine print before you click Submit. Any existing corporate or student discounts remain unaffected. If you're already receiving a 15% discount, for example, you'll continue to do so after the change. The iPhone data plan for $30 is not altered in any way.
The rate change takes effect immediately. Your current month will be pro-rated up to the date of change, the old charges affecting everything up to your change date, the new charges thereafter. AT&T warns that you may not be able to view your yet-unbilled usage for the remainder of the billing cycle, but you can call and talk to an AT&T representative if you need that information.
[Thanks, Dale Gattis]

I'm not saying this is valid, just that it does apply it.
I can't believe you haven't taken this down. Is there absolutely no editorial control there? What terrible journalism. Strike that - that's not journalism, it's total garbage.
WOW - BREAKING NEWS, AT&T Offers Corp discounts!
BTW - The update didn't fix the point on it applying on top of existing discounts. IT DOESN'T Ugh.
What a great deal!!

Thanks TUAW - Can't wait to buy a phone/device at full price!
Not sure why that didn't come out:
"You are not eligible to upgrade at a discounted price due to your length of service. However, you may still purchase a phone/device at the full price. Our records indicate that you will be eligible for an upgrade at a discounted price on 12/24/2009"
This is pretty bad. Research doesn't matter anymore, I guess. Big fail. Not even is the report old news, it's not correctly written. Erica, news to you != news to everyone else. A much better way to write this article would have been "Hey, look, the corporate discount is available if you don't have it, and here's how to sign up."
FWIW, my 22% corporate discount does include my iPhone data plans (I pay $23.40 for data a month). The sad part is that the 22% discount barely covers all the taxes and fees for our family plan.
I'm from AT&T, what she's discussing in this article is what we call a FAN discount. This is available to employees at certain companies. What is not discussed is who she works for and also that AT&T charges $36 to add a discount to your account. If you qualify and are OK with the fee, then you can start saving as of your second billing cycle from when you sign up. Also, the discount should apply to the iPhone data plan now too. Email me if you need some help and I'll set you up.

To err is human. Erica - I am still your biggest fan and will keep reading your posts.

September 25 2009 at 8:17 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI took a look at this article and thought I would brag a bit. I work for the local gov't. I know, everyone hates the Gov't as do I, but I get 15% off my plan which includes voice as well as certain features such as the $10 GPS for the iPhone. It's a nice thing to have, but I wish they would include the iPhone data plan. I would be a bit more partial to ATT, which I currently am not. They suck!!!
Otherwise, a discount hovering around $12 to $15 a month is extra spending money for me.
Military gets this discount but you have to register. I think the link above for biz works. Does nothing for unlimited plan.
