Save a little on your existing AT&T iPhone plan

Update: It appears that this post describes a sponsorship discount (business/school/etc). Those users get a percentage off of their monthly plan ($29.99 voice plan and iPhone data charge excluded). Those who do not see this as an option lack the corporate discount; those who do are seeing what the monthly service cost is after the discount is applied.
Go here to see if you qualify for the corporate discount.
Note that this discount only applies to the voice plan and not to the iPhone data plan. Nor does it apply to the additional lines in a family plan.
Looking to save a little on your monthly iPhone rates? AT&T just announced a price break but you do have to opt-in. It's not automatic. You can save from $6/month on the Nation 450 with rollover up to $12/month on the Nation 1350. The Unlimited plan remains unaffected.
So what's the downside of all this? You may lose some or all of your rollover minutes by converting to the new plan price. So check the fine print before you click Submit. Any existing corporate or student discounts remain unaffected. If you're already receiving a 15% discount, for example, you'll continue to do so after the change. The iPhone data plan for $30 is not altered in any way.
The rate change takes effect immediately. Your current month will be pro-rated up to the date of change, the old charges affecting everything up to your change date, the new charges thereafter. AT&T warns that you may not be able to view your yet-unbilled usage for the remainder of the billing cycle, but you can call and talk to an AT&T representative if you need that information.
[Thanks, Dale Gattis]

Same here. My rate plans are the same as they have been. Maybe it will roll out later? Or maybe it's because I just changed my plan in June. Oh well.

Erica,
Now that you have perked everyone's interest in your blog,
can you share what exact plan you have, OR how you came upon this offer/view?
Perhaps it's an offer specific to the type of plan you have and not offered to everyone in general.
Thank you for providing details to an otherwise unhelpful entry.

As, someone who has worked for the company for 5 years, let me clarify this post. When you have a sponsorship discount (business/school/etc) you get a percentage off you montly plan (29.99 voice plan and iphone data charge excluded) this screenshot is just reflecting said discount. Those who do not see this as an option have not set up a corporate discount, those who do are seeing what the monthly service cost is after the discount is applied (there is no further discount on the plan).
Those who want in on the discount action can visit the following site to check if they qualify for a discount based on your school or company email address.
https://www.wireless.att.com/business/authenticate/
However, please keep in mind that this discount only applies to the voiceplan and not to the iPhone data plan, also it does not apply to the additional lines in a family plan.

Liar, liar, pants on fire...
Talk about journalistic incompetence. this is why blogs like TUAW lose credibility, because their "writers" fail to do any kind of honest research before posting dribble like this.
Erica, I really hope you learn a lesson from this experience. You must be receiving a discount through your work and AT&T has just updated their Rate Plan page display... there is no new discount. Quit wasting your readers time!!
Respectfully... disappointed,
Former TUAW reader.

Once again Erica the Unreliable has gone off half-cocked, not bothering to actually check her facts before posting.

I receive 25% off of my rate and higher number of minutes per plan.
Also, the rate plans vary by location based on competitor's plans in the area.
I have a $37.50 family plan with 550 minutes and a discount on the second line.
jwilliek said 10:07AM on 9-25-2009
yep, mine is similar to Brian Allen's...it's a discount through my company, except ours is 22% off service (including the data).
I think I originally found it by going to ATT&'s main wireless site and then clicking the Business Center link in the upper right next to Personal. Then there was box there to enter your work email to see if you qualify, and after doing so they sent me a confirmation email with info on how to login to the premiere site.

Do you need to go somewhere specific to find these changes? I went to the normal change rate plan page and I DON'T see these changes at all.

One of the reasons I jumped AT&T back in February was that they did not give you the student discounting if you had an iPhone on the account. Has this policy changed?

As the iPhone is not the primary line
any discount applies only to the primary line, therefor if you have the iPhone on the primary line it would not be eligible for a discount
mi_sat said 6:27PM on 9-24-2009
@Devil. Not true. I have two iPhones, one of which is the primary. I get the 15% discount.

I can't find it either ... doesn't show on my account.

I see a similar page, but there's no blue "select plan" button next to my current plan, only next to the others. So I'd have to pick a more expensive plan (since I'm on the cheapest one) to get the reduction.

Interesting, it seems like the price cut might be automatic. My AT&T account shows that my "Current Rate Plan" now reflects a monthly cost of $33.99 versus an "Original" cost of $39.99 (which is striked through). I have the "Nation NBI Accounts 450 Rollover & 5000 Night/Weekend & Unlimited Mobile-To-Mobile Minutes" plan.
Anyone else noticing an automatic price reduction?

I can confirm this - I was automatically enrolled in the new plan, saving $9 per month on my 950 minute plan and retaining my business discount.
Jargon said 5:37PM on 9-24-2009
I have the same "Nation NBI Accounts 450" plan, but it still says $39.99 for me.
