Man threatens to shoot iPhone at Genius bar
Even morons buy Apple products. There's a story on ifoAppleStore today about one Mr. Donald Goodrich, who was having trouble with his iPhone. As many customers have done, Mr. Goodrich brought his iPhone to his local Genius Bar in Cincinnati, OH. While talking with an Apple Store employee, he allegedly said, "I'm so mad, I could pop a 9mm at it," meaning the iPhone.
We should note that Mr. Goodrich did have a permit to carry a concealed weapon and was cooperative with his arresting officer. We should also note that flashing it to a young person in a crowded mall while visibly upset and threatening to use it was a very dumb idea. Also, as Brandon points out in the comments below, the mall housing the Apple Store is private property and has posted "no weapons" signs.

I am pretty sure that even if you have a concealed weapons permit you aren't allowed to flash your weapon to anyone. Especially if you are making threats to use it. I would be surprised if he isn't charged with something. He needs to have his permit revoked too. It sounds like he has anger problems to me.

Same - I don't think I have had the microsoft update software work once on my office since I started using it 6-7 months ago.

lol. 1password definitely just autofilled out a comment I made forever ago.
What I was going to say was:
Yeah, that's the "concealed" part of the "concealed carry." If it is obvious that you're carrying (as in, if you've got a ridiculous bulge at the waist - forget if it's exposed) you can get into some pretty serious hot water. Depending on the cops that show up, anyway.
Dan Mosqueda said 2:16PM on 10-02-2009
You are correct. I have a concealed carry permit, though I haven't carried in over 2 years, it's just a hassle. If a business has a sign prohibiting weapons, you simply cannot bring one in. And due to the nature of "concealed," it is clearly illegal to allow anyone to see your weapon unless you are acting under the law (i.e. self-defense in a situation clearly threatening your life, usually with a similar weapon).
This guy will lose his permit and never be granted one anywhere in the US again. He'll be entered into an FBI database. He can probably still own a weapon, but carrying one on his person will be out. However, anyone can carry a weapon in their vehicle under so-called "Castle Doctrines" in most states.
He.is.a.moron. for sure!

Not in Georgia - if you have a concealed carry permit you can carry openly...it doesn't HAVE to be concealed. Dunno if you're only talking about Ohio, but of course it varies from state to state.
But in regards to getting in trouble just due to a bulge - doubtful. I wear fairly tight-fitting shirts and if you already know I have a gun in the small of my back, then it's pretty easy to see...but if you don't know ahead of time, you're generally not going to see a gun in random shirt lines and ripples. Even my extremely observant wife doesn't notice when I carry.
Anyway, this guy is a tard and probably needs his CCW taken away.
Fred said 6:37PM on 10-02-2009
Yes, this guy needs his CCW suspended for sure. A quick note though, most of the time businesses who do not permit lawful, licensed concealed carry (which is stupid BTW) must post it in specific locations and with specific nomenclature. And usually a business posts the sign specifically stating that UNLICENSED carry is prohibited. In cases where that is not properly posted you MAY legally carry but if the folks running the place ask you to leave or go disarm so you can return, you must comply. That's for TX anyway. YMMV in your state.

As a CCDW holder, the term you are looking for and the legal definition you need to meet is brandishing. Last I checked, open carry including flashing a weapon was not a firearm violation in Ohio (former resident). There may be other violations with making a threat with any weapon and then showing that weapon.
Brandishing typically includes removing a weapon from it's holster or storage location. Intent to use a weapon is not necessary to brandish. I've displayed my weapon on rare occasions, generally to people I know, but none of those times would I have brandished my weapon.

This is not unusual in the United States. Guns are an integral part of the culture. Why bother with concealment at all? Make it legal for everyone to wear a holstered weapon. The country’s murder rate can then rise even higher.

Never mind the obvious politically-loaded tone of your comment…but it is already legal in most states.
UK banned guns and now they're up to their eyeballs in knife crime. That's a good solution, I think.
Chris said 1:28PM on 10-02-2009
Right, because it is legally licensed gun owners who are the primary reason for the high murder rate, not thugs and gangs. Douchebag.
e:leaf said 1:24PM on 10-02-2009
Actually, I would wager that crime rates would dramatically decline. Who's going to commit a crime against someone they know is carrying? It's also a safe bet that in Ohio open carry (carrying a weapon that is not concealed) is already legal.
Ryan Schmidt said 1:57PM on 10-02-2009
I am from Ohio and have my CCW. Open carry is not yet legal in this state. This man will have his permit revoked. It's called CONCEAL carry for a reason. I was instructed in my class that if someone even thinks you have a gun and gets paranoid you'll probably be asked to leave the store. To flash your gun like this is retarded especially when you're already getting heated.
Should have his ccw revoked and I'm sure he will be charged for inducing panic.

That's what I long for - that is why the Wild West was so "non-wild"; everyone carried, so everyone was polite.
"After you." "No, after you."
"Oops, pardon me." "No I bumped you by accident, let me get you a beer"
Andrew said 4:03PM on 10-02-2009
@noob13
Bah, the UK never banned guns it has never been common or needed there. Most European countries see it the same way.
In my own European country gun crime is unheard of. The police does not even carry guns! And, no, knife crime is not a big problem either!
Truth be told, my countrymen actually own more guns than there are people. However we still have obligatory national service for young men and women are welcome to join (see: military service). They're *trained* to handle guns.
Secondly, large portions of my society hunts during the season(s) and have any number of rifles and shotguns at home. But you have to be member of a gun club to own one - and regularly prove yourself worthy (shooting test).
Oh, and a huge section of the adult male population are required to serve in the reserve forces/national guard after they complete their national service (until they are 45 years old). That includes keeping an AG-3 rifle at home.
And we STILL have almost no gun crime. What does that tell you?

1. Open carry is legal for anyone over the age of 18 in the state of Ohio. Anyone 21 or older can apply for and receive a Concealed Carry Permit provided they do not have a felony on their record and are granted a permit by their county sheriff.
2. It is an oft-proven fact that when gun laws are relaxed and more citizens are allowed to carry concealed and own handguns, crime in general is reduced.
3. A "No weapons allowed" sign is hardly going to stop a robber: better to just say "Come rob us, we're defenseless!"
Mike said 11:22PM on 10-02-2009
@Ryan
Ohio supreme court decided several years ago that open carry was a right in the state, but I beleieve they left it open to local jurisdictions to limit open carry. Last a checked, I think Dayton and a few select cities limited open carry.
