Telus to start iPhone sales on November 5
Rogers Wireless has a little over one week left of its Canadian iPhone exclusivity. Wireless carrier Telus announced today that it'll start sales of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS on Thursday, November 5, 2009. While the Telus network has been CDMA-only, the carrier is not selling a modified phone. Rather, the company is launching its iPhone-compatible HSPA network, which it's marketing to consumers as 3G+.
Prices on the new network match what many expected from Bell, which is also starting Canadian iPhone sales soon. Telus will sell an 8GB iPhone 3G for $99 (Cdn$), a 16GB iPhone 3GS for $199.99, or a 32GB iPhone 3GS for $299.99 with three-year contracts. Minus the monthly plans the 8GB iPhone 3G will run buyers $599.99, the 16GB iPhone 3GS will run $699.99, and the 32GB iPhone 3GS will run buyers $799.99.

So would this be what Verizon would do if/when the iPhone exclusivity runs out with AT&T?

Doubt it, unless Verizon was already planning to switch/start a GSM network. it seems unlikely that Apple would change to CDMA, I think they would have done it already.

None of these stories about Bell & Telus mean squat until they announce the contract prices and if there are any incentives to move from one carrier to the other. The price they are offering the hardware at the least likely to have any affect on sales and very unlikely to be different from fido at all.
Literally the only advantage to the end user is if it creates competition in the marketplace and we don't know that yet.

I also would like to know what the monthly rates would be. If they look anything like bell's pre pricing then I would be onboard.
Blazeblaster said 6:26PM on 10-26-2009
but the pre's pricing isn't that good...
they want $45 for 200 minutes, 500Mb data, and either my five, unlimited texting, 100 more minutes, or early evenings @ 5
my current rogers plan is 200 minutes, 1000 texts (which I'll never go over) and unlimited evenings @ 6 for $32 (Government Fee Included)
so basically bell is charging $53 dollars (with government and the lame system access fee) for what I get, plus 1/2Gb of data...

@Gazoobee,
Telus already stated what the contract prices (same as Rogers on a 3 yr activation). Could you possibly be talking about Data Plan prices? Bell nor Telus have announced what the iPhone Data Plans are yet.
They do need to offer some incentives if they want to compete. At the same time, people will be getting the iPhone no matter what because they now can with their wireless provider. The availability of the device ALONE will create a lot of sales for Bellus.

"Telus" is spelled "Teuls" on the first link.

There's also no such thing as a 32BG iPhone 3GS

Yes there is. And I'm sure you were talking about the 32GB not BG iphone 3GS:

What are the chances of a discount if I'm already on Telus but want to switch my BB for an iPhone?

None. I made that call last week in anticipation and the dude told me I was best to try and sell my BB Tour on a local online marketplace like Kijiji once I've picked up the iPhone. Thankfully, people are looking for the Tour and offering upwards of $400-$450. That'll cover half the cost of an iPhone. :s

slim and none come to mind... depending on how much time is left on your contract. If it's less than 6 months there is no penalty - as long as you stay with Telus.

I was really hoping that Telus or Bell would offer a 2-year contract to put some pressure on Rogers and entice people to switch. It seems they are only going after existing Telus customers rather than trying to draw from Rogers.

They won't do that at the cost of the phone is subsidized. Guaranteeing three years worth of service is how they offer the handsets at that price. if they did offer a two year, the handset would cost more which never looks good.

I think it's more likely they'd attempt to force a 4 year contract before they let the iPhone go on a 2 year one.
I know, call me crazy, but you know Rogers would follow suit and then 4 year would be the new standard.

I just noticed in the fine print on the Telus Mobility web site that the iPhone will not be available in the Provinces of Manitoba or Saskatchewan.
"The iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS are not available in Manitoba or Saskatchewan."
I wonder why?

I am pretty sure Rogers doesn't have any exclusivity to the Iphone in Canada, it was just the only GSM network here.
