Beta version of Firefox 3.6 for Mac now available
Want to see something scary this Halloween? Like, perhaps, a browser that doesn't coddle you with all that silly stability and reliable performance? Feel like spending a little time on the bleeding edge? You too can taste the future (which, I am told, has a distinctive metallic tang) by downloading the first public beta of Firefox 3.6, now featured over at the Mozilla developer blog. The next release of the open-source browser includes more flexible video options, better Javascript performance, updated font support and single-click appearance customization through the Personas skinning system. You can read more about the 3.6 changes from a web development perspective here.
The Mac version requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, and you can get it from the beta download page. Happy surfing!

Yes, but does it still have no support for dragging images straight into Photoshop?
I've been waiting for this to be fixed since FF3 came out.

Just drag it to your desktop then on top of the PS logo on the dock. It's one extra step, yes, but it's not THAT much of an inconvenience.

I'd much rather just drag straight into Photoshop. Having extra files cluttering up my desktop (not to mention the extra compounded time it takes to deal with them all) is quite unattractive.

Another option is to right click and copy image. Then in photoshop you can paste it, or create a new file (the dimensions will automatically match the dimension of the image in the clipboard).

Yup, done that too.
Takes about as long as just dragging to the desktop and then dragging to Photoshop.
Maybe I'm just curious as to why this feature is now broken.

You're out of your mind. It should be just as quick as dragging it to the dock, if not quicker. Right click, copy, CMD+Tab to Photoshop, CMD+V... I mean, unless you don't use a keyboard

Are we talking about dragging and dropping onto the icon in the dock. I just dropped 3 images onto the canvas of Ps from this blog page. Am I missing something?

Yeah. I know.
It's the doing it with EVERY IMAGE that gets old.

It might not be that hard, but there's no reason why it couldn't just be simpler. On my work PC, I like to use a lot of references for when I'm working on something in Illustrator or Photoshop. I've got a browser window open and my canvas open and I'm just dragging things over. Might be 5 pictures. Might be 20 pictures. Doesn't matter. It just works, nice and easy.
At home I'm on my Mac. Illustrator gives me some message about QuickTime (can't be solved apparently) when I try and drag jpgs directly into it. (You also can't use your up and down keys on the keyboard on the Mac version to cyle through your open fonts to see how they look in place, by the way). These little things add up to make my bosses stick to purchasing PCs.
Sorry, I know this is a Firefox story, but Adobe needs to get its stuff together on the Mac side (64-bit, Cocoa, font toggling, drag/drop images) and possibly create a OneNote competitor (nothing close on the Mac).

From what they saying as new features, it is nearly a useless beta version.
I tried, it has no support for Greatest addons like Cooliris, Screengrab, Coolpreview, Googletube, Youtube downloader, Chromin Frame, Chrome themes. As a hardcore Firefox user, i cant live without those addons. So happily downgraded to 3.5.4!
Maybe those addons' developers write the code that support 3.6 beta soon, until then I will be happy with 3.5.4

For that you should get the "nightly tester tools" addon that will allow you to override the compatibility info found in extensions, and to enable them on a beta/nightly of Firefox.
It works for most extensions, and when it doesn't: check the extension homepage to see if the author didn't release something better ( ie: getfirebug.com always has firebug beta that will work with the latest ffox beta ).

Chrome & Safari is still eating Firefox's lunch in javascript performance
http://www.manu-j.com/blog/chrome-vs-firefox-vs-safari-vs-webkit/382/
Both these browsers is 2 times better than Firefox on Sunspider scores. Also in V8 benchmark, Chrome is 10 times better than Firefox, Safari is 6.7 times better than Firefox and Chrome is 1.5 times better than Safari.

I agree, but FF blows Chrome and Safari out of the water when doing anything in Flash. I love chrome, I love safari but I still have to use FF for some flash apps.
