iPhone launching in South Korea this week
Just days after receiving final approval from regulators, the iPhone will go on sale this week in South Korea. KT Corp, the country's second largest mobile carrier, began taking orders for the iPhone today, with plans to launch the phone on Saturday, November 28.Apple has confirmed the KT announcement, though it's offered no other comment. KT, on the other hand, is playing the announcement up. In a press release, Kim Woo-sik, CEO of KT's personal customer group, said, "We are thrilled to bring iPhone to South Korea. Our customers will enjoy the power and benefits of using the revolutionary iPhone on KT's 3G network."
Residents of South Korea will have access to the same array of iPhones available in the states. KT is offering the 8GB iPhone 3G as well as the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS.

I like that Korea gets the iPhone before South Dakota does...
I'm still waiting

I'm still confused by this. I was just in South Korea and couldn't use my iPhone anywhere. Korea uses some version of CDMA so does this mean the iPhone is any closer to coming to Verison? Is there a map for that?

3 Years ago Korea was CDMA only....
Both major Korean carriers, SKT and KTF have had WCDMA overlay's for 2+ years. In fact they are de-emphasizing their legacy CDMA networks - the government was not keen to have an effective single source vendor path through Qualcomm. It kept handset prices up and stuck the country on a slower 3G to 4G evolution path.

BTW: I was just in Korea last week and my G1 phone worked fine - along with a co-workers iPhone... Both Korean carriers KTF and SKT are WCDMA/UMTS 2100... Did you browse for manual networks - sure you had international roaming activated?
Coverage is FULLY nationwide; see here for KT's coverage map:

You know, I don't know if I had international roaming on or not. That could pose a problem. Haha.

I am so thrilled to have this wonderful time and see this news at TUAW in my lifetime. :-)
BTW, TUAW, you've got a wrong flag of Korea. The symbol in the center, TAEGUEK, is not like that. Its angle has to be more slope, as below.

Thanks.

Excuse, but this page's Korean national flag's not correct.
Circle of flag(called the 'Taegeuk')'s angle is little bit wrong.
Please modify it.
