Boxee beta announced for December 7 release
An e-mail sent to Boxee users this morning reveals that the beta version of Boxee will be unveiled at a special event in New York City on December 7 at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The beta news comes on the heels of a Boxee box being planned for a 2010 release. The beta release of Boxee includes:
- A redesigned interface
- Improved navigation
- The ability to search for TV shows and movies both on the Internet and on local networks
- A queuing function, most likely similar to what Hulu has now.
- Shortcuts for apps, movies, and other programs
Those in New York City who want to attend the beta unveiling can reserve a spot. A live stream will also be provided through Boxee's blog or directly through the program itself.

i *may* go back to Boxee when they remove the useless "social networking" requirement. I could not care less to have Boxee "friends" nor do i care what they watch and/or recommend.
Also, Plex has been doing a WAY better job for me. Sorry, Boxee.

the only way I'd go back is if/when they started using the id3 tags I meticulously put in all my media that currently they all ignore and just use file name and look up on the internet instead.

I gave up on Boxee a long time ago. Few updates and a ugly interface. Plex does everything Boxee does and so much more. The interface is not only better looking but is more functional as well. That and the ability to use my harmony remote just make Plex better. Too little too late for Boxee.

I liked Boxee, but the Apple remote hasn't worked with it for months. Can't watch from the couch without a remote unless you want to keep on hopping up every 22 minutes.
This update needs to have a fix for the remote problem, or it's not worth downloading.
I also agree that they need to junk the "social networking" aspect of Boxee—I don't care what "Avner" recently watched.
Also, how come I can't play videos from a burned data DVD? Means I hae to copy archived shows back on to my Mac just to watch them with Boxee—or I could much easier just play them with VLC.
