Fake Steve Jobs: "Stand down!"

Wow. What a roller coaster ride! First, Fake Steve Jobs ordered Operation Chokehold. Then AT&T struck back. That's right around the time when a group of rebels joined the battle with Operation Cuckoo. Now, the original mastermind is telling everyone to stand down:
"I really don't want to cause any actual harm to my fellow AT&T users. Quite the opposite - I feel as if we're all caught in the same horrible prison, suffering alongside one another. The point is, I'm not sure we can stop this thing."
He goes on to list several alternate ideas including:
"Another idea and perhaps the best one: Let's form actual flash mobs outside AT&T stores and put duct tape over their mouths. Anyone up for this? Like, in San Francisco? The media is already all over this protest. They're loving it. They know how badly AT&T sucks and apparently they want to join us in our struggle. So making this into a physical demonstration is the best way to ratchet it up another notch."

He's a chicken. I know I'll be using the data bandwidth I pay for during that time.

Responsible. The only people this is going to hurt is other AT&T customers, corporate isn't going to give a rat's ass about an hour of heavy data traffic, even if it brings down a tower or two. At BEST this would prove AT&T's point that smartphone users need data throttling.

I am not participating in this operation.

However, I regularly use Pandora on my iPhone and will likely be doing so during that time frame. Just as I would likely be doing any other day.

@Jordan, how is using a streaming radio service for an hour going against my contract. I do it all the time. I am sure plenty of people use these service for more than an hour at a time.

How about showing a little faith in network you love soooooo much. Maybe this will go completely unnoticed because the network can handle it. I doubt it, but you should obviously be taking that stance rather than a bullsh*t bureaucratic one.

I cannot believe I am responding to this troll. Jordan, the iPhone is only on AT&T. I am sure tons of us would leave if it were available with other carriers. End of story.

@Jordan,

U flaming douchebag. It's not only that AT&T has exclusive US rights to service the iPhone, and it's not just that they require a 2-year contract to do so; It's that they promised this shit would WORK. This is why Operation Chokehold had become an unstoppable force. You clearly work for AT&T yourself or are sleeping with a mongoloid customer service representative of theirs... My money is on you not being able to cultivate such a profound relationship with anything other than a box of Kleenex, so kiss of, you A corporate shill.

Long Live Operation Chokehold!!!

Jordan,

People have every right to protest when they aren't getting good service from a company. In fact, leaving isn't the best response at all because AT&T will never know WHY you left. Angry customers, on the other hand, send a loud message to both AT&T and prospective future customers. It hurts them far more than merely "dropping out" would, and keeps the pressure on for them to do the right thing.

I should also point out that people aren't sticking with AT&T merely because they "like" their iPhone. Aside from the several hundred dollars in early termination fees, I have a lot of money plowed into this phone which will vanish overnight if I leave AT&T. Every network dependent app I own (including expensive GPS apps), the $199 I paid for the phone itself, the cost of a new phone and replacement phone plan etc. could easily add up to $1,000. Are you REALLY suggesting I should be okay with this so that AT&T can continue to plow revenue into profit-taking rather than building out their network? And before you challenge me on that last point, go look at the facts.

If you want to sit back silently while you're taken advantage of by corporate america, by all means go ahead. But don't expect everyone else to be as passive about it as you are.

Hey Michael, why haven't you given your opinion on the matter yet? Do you agree or disagree with people participating in this action?

I only ask because not once in your three posts about this matter have you given anything more than a quote and asking TUAW readers what they would do. You seem like a shit starter to me.

Actually it's AT&T that is keeping the iPhone users hostage due to the early termination fees. If you're willing to pay them I'm sure there's several iPhone users that will take you up on the offer!

Sounds like he may have had a visit from Krampus. Or maybe just an ATT Lawyer.... Either way they are both probably very unpleasant.

Now we all know that AT&T sent this fake steve some legal documentation and threatened him with this and that , Besides did anyone actually think that this was going to do something ?

If there are Doctors using the iPhone for professional use and a bunch of bored ridiculous people want to bog the system down , what did you prove? that it could be done? You can do the same thing to any other network if you have enough user's putting a squeeze on the system.

Yes AT&T is not the best, plain and simple you don't like there service and speed go elsewhere, they could give a rats ass what you do. For those that leave others will join, either directly or indirectly through secondary services that use there towers.

The only way I see where AT&T will feel some discomfort, is if the iPhone comes out on VZW's network.

Think of this once there exclusive contract with Apple is up , how do you think the service is going to be then?

Nice try fake Steve, I stick to what I say and AT&T got to you for your words and threats.
