Going to Vermont for a White Christmas? Relax - you'll have 3G service
So, you and your song-and-dance partner have decided that you're going to follow a few classy dames that you met at a nightclub in Florida up to Pine Tree, Vermont, where they're going to be spending the Christmas holidays performing their sister act at a lodge. The only problem is, you have AT&T service and you've heard that 3G service is nonexistent anywhere in the Green Mountain State. How are you going to be able to stream a live video from your iPhone 3GS to the Ed Harrison show so you can get your old Army buddies together for a tribute to the lodge owner, who is the General you served under in WW2?There will be no problems this White Christmas, since AT&T is in the process of lighting up their 3G network in Vermont starting today. This week, service will roll out in Bennington, Brattleboro, Brownsville, Killington, Vernon, Warren, West Dover, and White River Junction. By New Year's Eve, service will be extended to Burlington, Colchester, Essex Junction, Fayston, Hartford, Jamaica, Jeffersonville, Middlebury, Rutland, South Burlington, St. Albans, Stowe, Waitsfield, West Rutland, West Townshend, West Wardsboro, Williston, and Winooski. In the first quarter of 2010, Barre, Montpelier, and Northfield will finally see the light of 3G goodness glowing in their iPhones.
Wait a second... I didn't see Pine Tree in that list. Maybe it's not going to be a Merry Christmas after all!
A tip of the TUAW Santa hat to Vermont resident Bradley M. for sending us the news.

What about Manchester? It wasn't mentioned. I was in Bennington a couple days ago and only saw 3G show up briefly on my phone...seems like there is still a little work to do.

Thanks for getting me excited about NOTHING!
Ok, I'm a little harsh there, but comeon... the largest city (by far) in Vermont is Burlington, and you (in the meat of the article) got me all excited that TODAY I would see 3G finally turn on, and that if not, I would see it before Christmas! In fact, most people visiting Vermont for the holiday's will probably be HEADING to Burlington, not any of those other cities!
Then I read on to see Burlington isn't listed until "before the new year"! Well that doesn't do me a damn bit of good TODAY!
So again, thanks for getting my hopes and excitement up, only to crush my dreams of 3G service this afternoon.
;-)
(p.s.---while I truly was disappointed, I'm being melodramatic for fun, not to actually complain. I'm excited as hell to get 3G in the coming days.)
Plenty of people would be heading to Killington (and therefore Rutland) for skiingâ¦
December 17 2009 at 2:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAlright, well that is fair. I forgot about the skiing holidays. I was thinking along the "visit family" holiday.
Though that still doesn't do the Stowe / Waitsfield visitors any good.
YESSSS! Finally. As a Mount Snow renter in West Dover, this is HUGE news. Now maybe I can put my data card to good use.

Thanks, Steve.
It seems much more common among blogdom to include the link in the article. I had no idea I needed to look down there. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. But I suppose I know now. :-)
Finally! Verizon's had 3G in Vermont since 2006. When I switched so I could have an iPhone I sorely missed the data speed.
