O2 network issues hinder iPhone users
iPhone customers using O2 in the UK are three days into connectivity issues, according to Sky News. Many have been seeing the error message, "could not activate cellular data network." It's bound to happen once and a while, but such widespread outages ... and for so long ... have users rather cranky. Today it seems that O2 has identified the issue and is working on a fix: "We are aware of an issue currently impacting data access for some of our customers," they told Sky News Online. "We have identified a fault with the allocation of IP addresses and are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. We apologise to any affected customers."
Some Twitter users have noted a return of service, while others wait. We've got our fingers crossed for you all. Good luck!

I've been having up and down service all week. Last month I had two weeks with no Internet.
December 23 2009 at 3:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've had intermittent problems with this, but nothing lasting more than half an hour or so over the last few weeks. O2 is a great network though, I'd never dream of switching to Orange, had so many problems with them in the past.
December 23 2009 at 12:31 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThought it was just my iPhone 3GS rather than a widespread issue and therefore went to the trouble of rebooting, resetting network settings and a complete restore. Still getting intermittent service. Next time I'll check with O2 before I waste hours re-syncing everything! Some sort of notification from O2 would have been a nice touch.

Change Cellular Data from iphone.o2.co.uk to mobile.o2.co.uk
Instant fix!
Never mind data connections, my iPhone with the official O2 PAYG SIM doesn't even get a cell signal INSIDE my house.
Imagine having to stand on your doorstep to make calls?
JB + UL + Orange = 5 Bars
Rogers in Canada has been awful since about last Wednesday/Thursday as well - hours without data working, weird echos and garbles on voice, etc. Seems better now, but it was unusable Thursday through Sunday.
December 22 2009 at 1:11 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'd just like to ad my voice to those experiencing no problems whatsoever - in fact I have always had excellent service from o2.
December 22 2009 at 12:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have had real connection trouble, and agree with the above, for £40 I want to connect to the internet.
o2 has truly horrendous 3G coverage outside major cities, and even then within London it can be hit and miss.
With so much competition now in the market they need to truly improve.
I had loads of issues yesterday.. error messages left right and centre.. lucky that nothing important was happening and my clients have pretty much packed up for the holiday.. but no excuses.. I want a seamless service for £40 a month please o2!
December 22 2009 at 12:28 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI know at least 10 iPhone users (all over the UK) not one has mentioned a single issue, this combined with "according to Sky news" means the story is most likely a few small people effected including the journalists from Sky News (Sky News is like Fox News in the US, heavy on the scare-mongering and very light on the facts).
Also it appears to effect all O2 phones which have internet not just iPhones but Sky as usual decide adding the iPhone word makes the story more Buzz worthy. None of the other agencies have picked up on it I suspect it is a slow news day at Sky that's all. O2 reception and 3G is brilliant compared to ATT also unlike AT&T they have noticeably improved their network in the last few years.
I'm with you on that. I have an iPhone 3G on o2 UK and haven't noticed any problems connecting at all.
"...according to sky news"? Might as well have cracked open a poorly translated fortune cookie for more reliable information.
We've been whacked here in Central London, and lots folks are on the O2 forums complaining

On the whole O2 is grand, but this is the third time in one month we've had these outages that last, sometimes, well over a day .
