'iGuide' another rumored tablet/service name from Apple
"iSlate" isn't the only less-than-exciting name that Apple may be considering for their rumored upcoming tablet release. MacRumors has uncovered another possible trademarked name for the new device: iGuide. They found what appears to be a shell company created by Apple a while back (December 2007, around the same time that the iSlate trademark was filed) designed to trademark the name "iGuide" for a new device or service. The purpose of said service? To browse, transmit and play many types of multimedia content, including videos, audio, movies, photos, and even electronic publications like books, magazines, and blogs.Obviously, this is a pretty vague stab in the dark, but paired with recent rumors that the new tablet will include some Kindle or Nook-style reader functionality, iGuide could certainly be a delivery service for the new device, sort of an iTunes but for all kinds of media, designed to deliver content directly to the reader. We're just giving out ideas here -- as I said yesterday, this thing isn't real until it is. But the possibilities are very interesting for sure.

Hi,
I'm the owner of www.iguide.travel, which is currently the top "iGuide" in the world. iGuide is an interactive travel guide, and we're currently #1 in Google for the word iGuide, and get about 300,000 users a month.
What's my opinion on the name? It's not bad, though not great. I would of course love if Apple also used the name (my name!!) to help support my brand.
As to iguide.com, I tried to purchase the domain in January, but BuyDomains had asked for USD $250,000. It turns out iguide.com was actually sold for $100,000 this summer, to who knows who? And no, I could not afford that at that time either.
Anyhow, check out www.iguide.travel, its the real iGuide, and developed 100% on a MacBook.

I wonder if iGuide would be the possible creation of a DVR or Tivo type deal rather than a tablet. Something expanding on the Apple TV.
My friend was telling me that he heard of a report that the FCC was wanting to move to a generic box that can be bought by a consumer at any store and used to subscribe to any television provider. Sounds good to me.
My opinion, Apple takes the secrecy thing so far that it is annoying. Just tell us tablet "yes" or "no" so that I don't go buy one, then two weeks later Apple releases one and I'm stuck because I had no idea what Apple was doing and could not plan my needs or finances accordingly.
iGuide sounds more appropriate for an GPS Personal Navigation Device (PND)... maybe an iPhone or iPod that comes with turn-by-turn navigation built in, and comes with a windscreen mount for the car, plus travel guides, places of interest, etc.

Regardless, if this device can deliver my morning newspaper while I'm lying in bed, or waiting at the train station, and can speedily send me my monthly magazine subscriptions, then I'll buy one.
I say go with Apple Slate. iSlate doesn't sound that great, iPad sounds like a feminine product and the other names I've heard are nothing better. Apple Slate gets the brand name out there (not that Apple isn't well know already).
Keep it simple.
From looking at the pic I was wondering: when did Will Ferrell grow a beard?

If this is a media centered device (per some rumors), there could be some conflicts. But, who knows? It's all speculation anyway.
