Fox News backs up "big" Apple event rumors for January, cites "mobility space"

Shortly after Google China's former head posted what appear to be insider details about the upcoming Apple tablet, Clayton Morris at Fox News has confirmed the Apple January event will be "big" and focus on the "mobility space." Fox's story follows up on the original Financial Times report that Apple is hosting an event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on Tuesday, January 26th. Morris reports:
I've spoken to a source inside Apple who confirmed a "big" event for January.

While nothing official has been handed down from the notoriously tight-lipped company, my source took the Financial Times report one step further by saying this event will focus on the mobility space, meaning we'll see something related to the iPhone/iPod touch product line.
What will Apple announce that day? Only Steve and the team at Apple know for certain, but I can bet you that it's not just going to be an 8GB iPhone 3GS. Here's hoping it will be the Apple tablet, whether it's called the iSlate, Magic Slate, or iGuide. Personally, my money is on the iSlate running the iGuide OS/app.

I live in Atlanta where CNN has it's worldwide HQ so you'd expect loyalty however I know NOT to believe most of what they report. I've seen more stretching of the actual truth from them than anywhere. Once again since you chose to degrade a source when it came to a "product" I can only assume you're not a republican but hate Fox because they lean to the right! What that has to do with a tablet release God only knows but once again shows the thought process of dems and their followers.

Guys, I just don't see this tablet thing being legit. You're all going to come outta that event broken hearted if you're waiting for this glorious device, and this is always the downfall with apples stock. Personally, I'm seeing more of an iPhone HD with tegra powered, perhaps a larger screen but definitely a bigger res one. They will update the iPhone os to 4.0 and focus on gaming and finally step in the mobile gaming space with a real gaming device.

Or perhaps Steve jobs will announce on stage he is retiring because he likes his Win7 PC better... Who knows right, who knows.

I won't be totally surprised if Apple reveals at this announcement that it has a deal in place for other iPhone carriers that will take effect later in the year.

K. It seems to be getting more obvious. It's a line...a slate with wifi...a slate with 3g. Wifi version slightly stripped down...beginning to get the picture? Sound familiar? Applications to sell us...maybe some cloud software and server space? Movie rentals and GPS. Lets not forget the speech control and gesture control.

"Starting at $799" Get your ipod version or a bit more for the iphone version.

I'm there ... I'll get the ipod version. Dont need the contract from Verizon. Unless its unlocked of course.

I hope I'm wrong, but why would Apple announce a new Macbook tablet in January after the holiday season? Rather, I think they're going to update the iPhone 3GS and announce iPhone OS 4.0. At best, I think what many are calling a "tablet" is a larger iPhone sans phone a.k.a. a portable media player. It probably will have touch functionality and will run iPhone apps but won't run a full-version of Mac OS X. There's just no way that Apple is going to want to stretch their MacBook lineup to include another model. If you want a full OS X tablet, Axiotron will be the only supplier for the next year or so. Again, I hope I'm wrong but just don't see Apple releasing a full tablet.

Because it probably won't be available until sometime in the 2nd quarter (meaning April - June 30).
